Attend Family Fest

Enjoy family fun at the annual Family Fest on July 4th.  Enjoy free kiddie rides, climbing wall, arts and crafts, pony rides, hay maze, music and fireworks.  The event will be held at the Columbia County Fairgrounds in Chatham.  The gates open at 3:00 pm and fireworks go off at 9:30 pm.  For more information about the Columbia County Fairgrounds call (518) 392-2121 visit their website at www.columbiafair.com.

Enjoy an Independence Day Celebration

Come and celebrate Independence Day the old-fashioned way at Clermont State Historic Site on July 4th.  The event will begin at 12:00 pm and run until dusk with food, live music, reenactors, kids' contests, story telling, free treats and more.  For a cost of only $7 per vehicle, families can enter the festival grounds for an entire day's worth of excitement, culminating in a view of the Saugerties fireworks after dark.  For more information about Clermont State Historic Site call (518) 537-4240 or visit their website at www.friendsofclermont.org.

Attend the People's Parade


The Kinderhook Business and Professional Association will host the annual People's Parade on Wednesday, July 4.  The parade kicks off at 11:00 am from Rothermel Park in Kinderhook and will be held rain or shine.  Make your own float.  Decorate your car, stroller, wagon, garden tour, lawn mower or bike.  Anything you can push or ride, decorate it with good old American Pride!  Wear your red, white and blue.  They need you and your patriotic spirit too!  Spirit of all ages is welcome.  Everyone is invited to participate or bring a chair to relax and watch the parade from the sidelines.  For more information about Kinderhook Business and Professional Association visit their website at  www.kbpa.org.

Attend the Hidden Garden Tour of Spencertown

The Spencertown Academy will host the 4th Annual Garden Tour on Saturday, July 7 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.  The Tour is a celebration of the art of the garden.  The theme of this year's tour, "Gardens in the Landscape", honors the beauty of the glorious natural landscape that surrounds us.  Come and enjoy a day of natural and cultivated beauty.  For more information about the Spencertown Academy call (518) 392-3683 or visit their website at www.spencertownacademy.org.


See a Live Performance

Attend a Show

Walking the Dog Theater will feature "Cyrano" in a new adaptation by Jo Roets of the classic play by Edmond Rostand.  The play will run June 29-July 15 at the Basilica Industria in Hudson.  Tickets are $10-$20.  This fresh and playful adaptation of the classic play holds all the magic, humor, romance, and tragedy of the original play while paring it down to 80 minutes and the skills of only three actors.  For more information about Walking the Dog Theater call (518) 392-0131 or visit their website at www.wtdtheater.org.

Design Your Own Pottery


Looking for a place to cool off this summer - visit "Thinking Out Loud".  Spend some time creating a one-of-a-kind piece of pottery or clay.  The ceramic studio offers a nice variety of paint-your-own pottery and clay from scratch classes.  This is a perfect spot to take the kids on a rainy day.  Thinking Out Loud is located in the Old Train Depot in Valatie and are open Thursday and Friday from 12-5 pm, Saturday, 12-6 pm and Sunday 12-4 pm.  For more information about Thinking Out Load call (518) 758-8633.

Stageworks/Hudson will feature "A Wedding Story"  from July 11-29.  A Wedding Story is about a single woman named Sally, who perceives marriage as a sacrifice akin to a prison term.  She runs screaming from anything that smells of a long-term commitment.  Her parents have a loving relationship - their theme movie is Casablanca. See a Live Variety Show

Columbia Arts Team will present Saturday Night Liv on Thursday, July 26.  Saturday Night Liv offers an evening of music, original comedy and variety sketches featuring The Really Convincing Players, hosted by Liv Cummings.  The show is fun for the whole family.  The show will be presented at the Spencertown Academy.  Tickets are $20 and $15 for seniors and students.  The performance begins at 7:30 pm.  For more information about Columbia Arts Team, call (518) 329-5484 or visit their website at www.spencertownacademy.org.
