The Two Of Us Productions and Hudson Valley Academy of Performing Arts have come together for the production of Arthur Miler's "Broken Glass".  "Broken Glass" is a thought provoking exploration of failed relationships brought into focus by events of November 1938 and the "Night of Broken Glass" in Nazi Germany. " Broken Glass" is being presented at the Valatie Community Theatre May 1-3.   For tickets or more information call (518) 329-6293 or visit their website at www.thetwoofusproductions.org.


Attend a Benefit

Columbia Arts Team will hold it's CAT-A-Thon on Thursday, May 7 at 5:00 pm.  It's a fundraiser for the organization with big prizes, fine wines, food music and fun.  Special guest speaker will be Paul Rapp, noted music biz lawyer.  He'll talk about Hudson's thriving performing arts scene and what it means for business.  The event will be held at Stageworks/Hudson.  A suggested donation is $25.  For more information about Columbia Arts Team call (800) 816-4802 or visit their website at www.columbiaartsteam.org.

See the Met Opera

Time and Space Limited will feature the Met Opera - La Cenerentola on May 9 at 1:00 pm (live), May 10 at 1:00 pm and May 17 at 1:00 pm.  Hot on the heels of her triumphant Met debut as Rosina in last season's Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Elina Garanca portrays another Rossini charmer in this bel canto Cinderella story.  Lawrence Brownlee is her Prince Charming.  Veteran baritone Alessandro Corbelli demonstrates his impeccable comic timing to match the gravitas of Met favorite John Relyea.  Tickets are $22.  Reservations are required.  For tickets or more information about Time and Space Limited call (518) 822-8448 or visit their website at www.timeandspace.org.

Celebrate Mother's Day

This Mother's Day bring a picnic basket and your favorite lunch down to the Farm Complex at Olana, they'll provide the supplies for kids to paint a landscape painting gift for mom.  Visit the Wagon House Education Center to pick up art supplies and learn a little about horticulture/the art of designing garden borders for sun and shade from Bob Hyland, co-owner and principal of Loomis Creek Nursery in Hudson.  A great selection of plants to jumpstart your spring gardens and containers will be offered for sale from this fantastic local nursery and gardening resource.  It's free to attend on Sunday, May 10 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm  For more information about Olana State Historic Site call (518) 828-1872 or visit their website at www.olana.org.


Take a Tour


Columbia County Bounty hosts its annual Chef to Farm Tour on Monday, May 11.  The tour will start at 12:30 pm at the Pampered Cow on Schnackenberg Road in Ghent.  From there the tour will go to Threshold Farm in Philmont and the final stop will be at Hudson-Chatham Winery in Ghent.  For those who prefer not to drive between stops, a 15-passenger van will depart from Cornell Cooperative Extension in Hudson at noon.  Everyone is welcome to go on the tour.  The only requirement is 2009 Bounty membership for $25 for chefs, farmers or individuals, $40 for couples and companies.  For more information about Columbia County Bounty call (518) 392-9696 or visit their website at www.columbiacountybounty.com.

Enjoy Walking Your Dog

Walking the Dog Theater will host the 2nd annual WalkingthedogWalk on Saturday, May 16 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm in Hudson.  The 2008 walk featured over 125 registered dogs and 400 people participating in the Parade and the Bestminister Dog Show.  Dogs of all shapes, sizes, colors and canine ethnicity are welcome.  This year's event will include a 1.1 mile parade down Warren Street and end at Walking the Dog Theater/Basilica.  The parade will culminate with the Bestminister Dog Show and Fair from 3:00 to 5:00 pm with music, doggie goodies, and lots of fun things available for the whole family.  For more information about Walking the Dog Theater call (518) 755-1716 or visit their website at www.wtdtheater.org.

Attend the Children's Book Festival

Experience the new Adventure Park at Catamount

Join Catamount for the opening weekend of the new Adventure Park on Friday, May 15 through Sunday, May 17.  The park is for ages 8 and up.  The concept behind formation of the park is to provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the woods, the mountains, and the great views while at the same time navigating treetop challenges that will be fun, exciting and safe.  Participants will develop skills, endurance and confidence as they progress through the course levels, which have varying degrees of difficulty.  For tickets more information about Catamount Adventure Park call (518) 325-3200 or visit their website at www.catamounttrees.com.

Enjoy a Country Barbecue

The Columbia Land Conservancy will host the 19th annual Country Barbecue on Sunday, may 24 from 4:30 to 8:00 pm at Old Chatham Sheepherding.  Join them to enjoy live entertainment, activities for children and adults, delicious local dishes with an array of wines and locally brewed beer.  There will be a working ox-team, border collies, alpacas, and more. Celebrate 100 Years of Business with Ginsberg's
