Attend a Chili-Cook Off and Fair

Plan to attend the Columbia-Greene Chili Cook-off & Riverfront Fair on Sunday, October 1 from 12:00 to 5:00 pm.  The event will take place at both Hudson and Athens Riverfront Parks.  The event is a one-day outdoor family festival designed to celebrate the I Love New York 2006 Fall Festival, highlighting agriculture, culinary and cultural tourism in Columbia County.  Activities will be held on both sides of the river and will include the chili cook-off contest, farmer's market, free boat rides, family activities, live entertainment and much more.  For more information about the Columbia-Greene Chili Cook-off & Riverfront Fair call  Mexican Radio (518) 828-7770 or visit their website at http://mexrad.com/chilicookoff.html.

Discover Art in Columbia County


The Columbia County Council on the Arts will host the 12th Annual Hudson ArtsWalk, September 30 through October 9.  This is one of Columbia County's and the Hudson River Valley's largest events.  ArtsWalk features cutting edge visual and installation art, sculpture, dance, music, with school-aged portrait artists in pocket parks and a steady stream of art auctions, mural-making, sidewalk chalk art, fine food and other astonishments.  Art will be displayed at various locations throughout Hudson.  For more information about Columbia County Council on the Arts call (518) 671-6213 or visit their website at www.artscolumbia.org.

See a Play

The 2006-07 season of the Copake Theatre Company opens September 29th with a premiere workshop production of a new musical comedy, "Sour Grapes - the Ladies of the Hood River Horticultural Society and the Flower that Nearly Destroyed Them.  The musical takes place in a rural community in Oregon in 1892.  The ladies - and gentleman - of the Horticultural Society are embroiled in a comical battle as they try to choose Oregon's state flower.  But the play also explores what went wrong in the friendship between two of the women.  It's a brand new, laugh-out-loud funny and sometimes touching musical the whole family will enjoy.  The play will run September 29 through October 8 and will be held at the historic Copake Grange.  For more information about the Copake Theatre Company call (518) 325-1234 or visit their website at www.copaketheatrecompany.com.


Take a Cruise

Celebrate Agriculture

Attend an Old Fashioned Power Demonstration Show

Enjoy a Community Appreciation Day

On October 8, The Shaker Museum & Library will celebrate the harvest season with the "Best Apple and Pumpkin Pie Contest" judged by local food experts; a complimentary tasting of seasonal foods from local kitchens, gardens, and orchards is planned.  Pumpkins will be harvested from the Museum's garden and each child in attendance will be able to decorate a pumpkin and take it home.  The New York State Kite Enthusiasts will also be on hand for a kite flying exhibition.  Admission is free to the Museum and grounds.  The event will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  For more information about the Shaker Museum & Library call (518) 794-9100 ext. 218 or visit their website at www.shakermuseumandlibrary.org.

Attend a Film Festival


On Thursday, October 19th the FilmColumbia Festival returns for its 7th season of outstanding independent films and exciting events.   FilmColumbia hosted by the Chatham Film Club will be held at the historic Crandell Theatre in Chatham and will show 19 independent films, documentaries, shorts, and animations from around the world.  The Festival will run from Thursday, October 19 through Sunday, October 22.  Tickets for the Festival go on sale on September 30.  For more information about FilmColumbia Festival call (518) 392-3445 or visit their website at www.filmcolumbia.com.

Take your Dog out for a Day of Fun
