Attend the
4th Annual Farm Fest
On Saturday, October
7 the Columbia Land Conservancy will host the 4th annual Farm
Fest. This event is a family-oriented celebration of
local agriculture featuring food, children's activities such
as hay maze and hay jump, music, apple pie contest, farm animals
and antique tractor pull. This is a unique opportunity for
farmers and foresters to share their stories and their products
from Columbia County soil and livestock. Farm Fest will
be held at the Columbia County Fairgrounds and run from 10:00

Discover Art in Columbia County
The Columbia
County Council on the Arts will host the 12th
Annual Hudson ArtsWalk, September 30 through
October 9. This is one of Columbia County's
and the Hudson River Valley's largest events.
ArtsWalk features cutting edge visual and installation
art, sculpture, dance, music, with school-aged
portrait artists in pocket parks and a steady
stream of art auctions, mural-making, sidewalk
chalk art, fine food and other astonishments.

See a Play
The 2006-07 season of
the Copake Theatre Company opens September 29th with a premiere
workshop production of a new musical comedy, "Sour Grapes
- the Ladies of the Hood River Horticultural Society and the
Flower that Nearly Destroyed Them. The musical takes place
in a rural community in Oregon in 1892. The ladies - and gentleman
- of the Horticultural Society are embroiled in a comical
battle as they try to choose Oregon's state flower. But the
play also explores what went wrong in the friendship between
two of the women. It's a brand new, laugh-out-loud funny and
sometimes touching musical the whole family will enjoy. The
play will run September 29 through October 15 and will be

Take a Cruise
Enjoy the beautiful fall
views while taking a leisurely cruise on the Hudson River
aboard the "Spirit of the Hudson." Cruises will

Celebrate the bounty
of the season at Hawthorne Valley's Fall Harvest Festival

The Hudson Valley Old
Time Power Association will be holding its annual event on
October 7 & 8. The event will feature operating displays
of engines, tractors, iron forging, lumber milling, woodworking
and printing; and old fashioned arts and crafts including
a quilt exhibit, demonstrations and sales; garden and farm
tractor pull events. The event will be held on Fingar Road

Enjoy a Community Appreciation Day
On October 8, The Shaker
Museum & Library will celebrate the harvest season with
the "Best Apple and Pumpkin Pie Contest" judged by
local food experts; a complimentary tasting of seasonal foods
from local kitchens, gardens, and orchards is planned. Pumpkins
will be harvested from the Museum's garden and each child in
attendance will be able to decorate a pumpkin and take it home.
The New York State Kite Enthusiasts will also be on hand for
a kite flying exhibition. Admission is free to the Museum and

a Film Festival
On Thursday, October 19
the FilmColumbia Festival returns for its 7th season of outstanding
independent films and exciting events. FilmColumbia hosted
by the Chatham Film Club will be held at the historic Crandell
Theatre in Chatham and will show 19 independent films, documentaries,
shorts, and animations from around the world. The Festival
will run from Thursday, October 19 through Sunday, October

Take your Dog out for a Day of Fun
Clermont State Historic
Site will present a special festival just for dogs and the
people who love them on Saturday, October 21. The fourth annual "Every
Dog Has His Day" will be an event filled with games, shopping,
food and fun for guests with four legs or two. From 11:00 am
until 5:00 pm dogs and their owners will find more than enough
to keep them busy. getting pampered, learning about new dog
sports, and competing in fun and relaxed contests. This special
event offers the opportunity to get your dog groomed, trained,
