Enjoy the Chili Cook-Off & Riverfront Fair
The annual Columbia-Greene Chili Cook-Off and Riverfront Fair will be held on Saturday, October 4 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at the historic Catskill Point, rain or shine. This one-day fun-filled festival highlights the best of the local farm bounty as more than a dozen contestants go head to head across Columbia and Greene Counties. The event will feature a farmer's market, live music, food vendors and activities for children all indoors in addition to the chili tasting. Boat rides will also be offered between Hudson Waterfront Park and Catskill Point. Admission is $5, children under 12 are free. Attend the First Hillsdale and Copake Harvest Festival
The communities of Copake and Hillsdale present the first annual old-fashioned Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 4 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm. The event will take place in the new Roeliff Jansen Park on Route 22 on the Hillsdale/Copake border. Attendees can enjoy horse-drawn hayrides, pumpkin contests, apple/donut "on a string" bobbing, a silent auction, pie contests, farmers market, face painting, children's activities and more. Attend the 2nd annual Dalmatian Day at FASNY Museum of Firefighting
The FASNY Museum of Firefighting will host the 2nd annual Dalmatian Day on Saturday, October 11 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. This free, family oriented day focuses on the Dalmatian and fire safety and prevention. The event will feature live Dalmatians, Dalmatian crafts, entertainment by Magician and Entertainer Joey D. who will present two magic shows, a fire prevention puppet show and much more. The Columbia County Council on the Arts will present the 15th annual ArtsWalk from October 10th -13th. Over 150 regional artists will be represented this year at the members show in The Cannonball Factory located in the City of Hudson. Works in applied arts, nature, photography, sculpture, landscape, contemporary painting, still life and the figure will be on display. The Austerlitz Historical Society will present the 12th annual Autumn in Austerlitz on Sunday, October 12 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at the site of Old Austerlitz on Route 22 in Austerlitz. The event will include a variety of activities designed to portray an early 19th century theme, which is the time period of the reconstructed Old Austerlitz. Celebrate Autumn in Valatie
On Saturday, October 18 from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm Main Street in Valatie will come alive for Autumn in Valatie. Attend the 9th annual FilmColumbia Festival
FilmColumbia returns for its 9th festival season on Thursday, October 16. Hosted by The Chatham Film Club the festival will screen more than 35 independent films, documentaries, shorts and animations from around the world. FilmColumbia unfolds with award-winning screenings and sneak previews. The festival will be held at the historic Crandell Theatre along with the Morris Memorial Community Center and Tracy Memorial Hall. Tickets go on sale to the public on October 3rd. Enjoy Some Fun at Clermont's Candlelight Spook Tours
Clermont State Historic Site will host the Legends by Candlelight Spook Tours on October 17, 18, 24 & 25 quadrupling the capacity of last year. The ghosts of Margaret Beekman Livingston and Betsy Livingston are in fact museum staff lacing up corsets and rustling petticoats for the tours. The tours were such a big hit in 2007 that Clermont expanded for 2008. So, come and enjoy some Halloween fun at Clermont this October. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
