Take a Winter Walk on Warren Street

Get ready for a Winter Walk on Warren Street on Saturday, December 5 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.  Hudson's main street will be transformed into a winter wonderland, as the Hudson Opera House presents "A Winter Walk on Warren Street". This eagerly-awaited event kicks off the holiday season in historic Hudson.  Always held on the first Saturday in December, this festive holiday celebration is now in its 13th year and has become a premier event in the Hudson Valley.  Winter Walk features dancers, storytellers, and musicians performing in shop windows, horse-drawn carriage rides, live reindeer and a Santa Parade.  Groups of carolers stroll the streets, along with the walking Gingerbread Witch, Elves of all sizes and other characters. See Whats Happening BeLo 3rd

On Saturday, December 5th while strolling down Warren Street during WinterWalk, be sure to go "BeLo 3rd".  This new addition to WinterWalk is worth the stroll providing the Twelve Days of Christmas in windows throughout the stores, holiday refreshments and some surprises.  At 8:00 pm everyone will be doing the stroll into Savoia to enjoy "World Music Night".  For more information about BeLo 3rd contact J. See a Holiday Show

Walking the Dog Theater will feature Charles Dickens, "A Christmas Carol", December 4-20 at Space 360 in Hudson.  This seasonal favorite creates the experience of Charles Dickens' tour of New England, when the author performed his famous story for American audiences.  David Anderson, who performed the story last year with musical accompaniment by Jonathan Talbott, dramatizes the story in an intimate setting at Space 360.  For tickets or more information about Walking the Dog Theater call (518) 610-0909 or visit their website at www.wtdtheater.org

Enjoy a Holiday House Tour

Visit Olana State Historic Site for Christmas with the Churches, a look at how the family spent the holiday at home.  Hear oldest son Frederic Joseph's letter to Santa Claus to find out just what gifts the children wished for, and hear what other family and visitors wrote about the experience.  The tours will be held Friday - Sunday from December 4, 2009 to January 3, 2010 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Enjoy Candlelight Night in Kinderhook

On Friday, December 11 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm, the Kinderhook Village will come alive for the annual Candlelight Night.  Luminaries will light your way through the Village to enjoy a little Holiday Cheer.  Stroll along to see what the local merchants have to offer or take a horse drawn wagon ride. Come see Santa, holiday carolers, and more.  Enjoy the Gallery of Wreaths, Greens Show and holiday boutique at the Columbia County Museum and James Vanderpoel House.  Don't miss teen night upstairs at the Village Hall.  There will be music and games all evening.  The event is sponsored by the Kinderhook Business and Professional Association.  For more information about Candlelight Night visit their website at www.kbpa.org.

Stroll the Streets of Valatie for the annual Winter Walk

Main Street Valatie comes to life on Saturday, December 12 for the annual Winter Walk from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.  The festivities will begin at 6:00 pm with a rousing parade beginning at the Valatie Firehouse, traveling down the Main Street and ending up at Glynn Square. Hayrides will begin immediately following the parade.  Fun activities, great food, bargains and much more can be found all along Main Street. Children can have their pictures taken with Santa Claus at the Valatie Theater and Mrs. Claus will be on hand at Hennessy Insurance to give out balloons.  For more information about Winter Walk in Valatie call Evenstar at (518) 758-2616 or the Hair Zone at (518) 758-7800.

Enjoy a Concert

Lorraine Nelson Wolf who has performed at Carnegie Hall and on Broadway provides a song gift weekend at the Reformed Dutch Church of Claverack.  She composed the CBS NASCAR theme and the music for the documentary "Four Hands, One Heart".  Wolf will perform on Saturday, December 12th at 7:00 pm.  On December 13th, at 9:30 am Wolf will also perform with the congregation, in a sing along written by her for the Reformed Dutch Church in Claverack.  For more information about the Reformed Dutch Church call (518) 851-3811 or visit the website at www.claverackreformedchurch.org.

Enjoy Winterfest in Chatham

Come and enjoy the Annual Winterfest in the Village of Chatham on Sunday, December 13 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.  The Village of Chatham becomes a winter wonderland just as in our memories of days long past.  See twinkling window displays, special sales, Santa Claus, holiday music and lots of small town surprises.  Celebrate the holidays the way they used to be, wandering through festive, one-of-a-kind shops with friends and family.  Make an afternoon of it and include lunch at one of Chatham's local restaurants.  For more information about Winterfest visit the Chatham Business Alliance website at www.chathambusinessalliance.org.

Enjoy a Holiday Concert

The Spencetown Academy presents a Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 13th at 3:30 pm by the Hudson Valley Choral Society.  Gretchen Rueckenheim conducts a twenty-five voice chorus in a program of seasonal songs including works by William Billings, Duke Ellington, Alfred Burt and others.  In the second half of the program the audience is invited to join in a holiday sing.  Adults are $10, Seniors are $8 amd Students are free.  For more information about the Spencertown Academy call (518) 392-3693 or visit their website at www.spencertownacademy.org.

Youth Holiday Workshop

Columbia Arts Team offers a Youth Holiday Theater Workshop December 28 - 30 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm.  Area youth ages 8 to 12 learn performing & playwriting skills as they create and rehearse their own musical in a three-day workshop. On the last day, they perform their piece at the Spectacular.  register by Wed., Dec. 23. Include your name, your child’s name, their age, grade, address, and phone.
