The Hudson Opera House and Diamond Opera Theater present a series of free performances on Saturday, January 10 and Saturday, February 14 at 4:00 pm. The performances will include Gems of the Lyric Repertoire with lyric soprano including Jennifer Valis in January and That's Amore with tenor Patrick Leyton and mezzo-sopranos Katherine Layton in February. Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna provide the star power to deliver this ravishing romance from the world's most popular opera composer. Gheorghiu plays the kept woman who gambles on true love, and Alagna is the man who makes her question the cost of her glittering existence. Network with Local Farmers and Chefs
Columbia County Bounty will host its first Speed Networking event for farmers and chefs on Monday, January 12 from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm at Columbia-Greene Community College. The program will kick-off at 9:30 am with registration and will feature speakers David Grusenmeyer and Jill Eisenstein to assist farmers and food buyers to connect and explore best practices in working together. The event will also feature a panel of farmers and chefs that will discuss the rewards and difficulties of working together. Following lunch, the Speed Networking gets under way. The day will end with several break-out sessions. Tickets are $20 for Bounty members and $30 for non-members. The Hudson Opera House will feature Chamber Jazz Ensemble Madera Vox on Saturday, January 24 at 8:00 pm. Oboist Nicole Golay, bassoonist Cornelia McGiver, pianist Sylvia Buccelli, soprano Kelly Ellenwood and percussionist-composer David Gluck are Madera Vox, a chamber ensemble combining the best of the traditional repertoire with original 21st century works. With composer Chick Corea, as well as newly commissioned pieces, Madera Vox weaves together an engaging performance not to be missed. Take a Winter Walk
Hawthorne Valley Farm will lead winter walks at various sites around the County in January and February. During the walks attendees will dabble in winter botany and, if weather allows, with snow tracking plus some bits and pieces of history and geology. Dress warmly for the walks and feel free to bring along a hot beverage to keep warm. The walks begin at 1:00 pm. The dates are January 25th, February 8, & February 22. The walks are free, but registration is required. Walking the Dog Theater will feature OFF LEASH!, a night of Improv on Saturday, January 31 at Space 360 in Hudson. Off Leash is a sparkling night of improbable and impossibly delirious Improv, bubbling with spirit. The Improv Ensemble will take audience suggestions and explore the art of spontaneous imagination. The evening will benefit the Complementary Therapies Cancer Care Fund at Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation. A suggested donation of $20 for tickets is appreciated. The work of Kristin Locashio will be on display at the John Davis Gallery from February 5th through March 1st. There will be a reception for the artist on Saturday, February 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The paintings develop from an exploration of mark making. Each layer is made by working with, or against, the last. The work evolves from the act of seeking, with the knowledge that the possibility of editing always exists.
