fragile heroine for the first time at the Met, with tenor Rolando
Villazon in the part of her lover, Edgardo. Baritone Mariusz
Kwiecien is her tyrannical brother. Mary Zimmerman's hot production

Guest Chefs for Charity will be hosting two benefit dinners on Wednesday,
February 11 at Pi Cafe in Kinderhook. A portion of the proceeds
benefit Stageworks/Hudson. Barry Herbold, Owner of Empire
State Appraisal Consultants and Stageworks Board President will
be the guest chef. Reservations are accepted for 5:30 and
7:30 pm seatings. Chef Herbold will prepare a three course
dinner. The cost of the dinner is $35 per person. Maria
Ruggiero, owner of Pi Cafe, created Guest Chefs for Charity as a
way to support the local community. Now entering its second
year, Pi Cafe has raised over $4,500 for local organizations.

Valley Cheese Festival
The
third annual Hudson Valley Cheese Festival, a celebration of great
cheeses, fine wines and culinary talent from the Hudson Valley returns
to downtown Hudson on Sunday, February 15 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.
The Festival will be held at the Deffebach Gallery on Warren Street
in Hudson. Proceeds from the event will benefit Columbia County

a House Tour at Olana
Olana
State Historic Site will host the 2009 Presidents Day Weekend Tours:
Lincoln, Church and the U.S. Civil War February 13 through 15.
When the U.S. Civil War broke out in 1861, all citizens were affected
in some way and artist Frederic Edwin Church was no exception.
Join us for themed tours that shed a little light on the influence
of the Civil War on Church and his art. Admission is free
for members of The Olana Partnership and for children under 12.

Take a Winter Walk
Hawthorne
Valley Farm will lead winter walks at various sites around the County
in February. During the walks attendees will dabble in winter
botany and, if weather allows, with snow tracking plus some bits
and pieces of history and geology. Dress warmly for the walks
and feel free to bring along a hot beverage to keep warm.
The walks begin at 1:00 pm and go to 3:00 pm. The dates are
February 8, & February 22. The walks are free, but registration

Go Snowshoeing
Columbia
Land Conservancy will host its "Critter Cam" Program on
Tuesday, February 17 during school winter vacation week. The
program will run from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Get the kids up and
moving at their family snowshoe program. Spend a great winter
afternoon romping through the snow with your children. You'll
look for animal signs and tracks as you explore the area around
the beaver pond at Hand Hollow. You'll help CLC's educator
decide where to set-up their "Critter Cam" to take photographs
of the local wildlife. A limited number of snowshoes are available
for children and adults with pre-registration. For more information
