Attend the 2006 Juried Art Show

The Columbia Council on the Arts will feature their annual Juried Art Show March 4 through April 1 at the Hudson Opera House. The opening reception will be held on March 4 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and prizes will be awarded at 7:00 pm. The show celebrates the diversity and quality of the work being produced by Columbia County and regional artists. The Copake Auction House will hold their sixth annual Winter Textile Auction on March 11 at 12:00 pm. The auction will feature quilts, selection of samplers, hooked rugs, paisleys, vintage fabric, lace, linens and accessories. The Farmscape Ecology program at Hawthorne Valley Farm will offer a walk on March 11 and March 18 at 2:00 pm. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in true Irish style with a good story. On March 17 at 7:30 pm the Spencertown Academy will feature master storyteller Tom Lee who will share tales from the Celtic oral tradition. It’s more than leprechauns and shamrocks. Enjoy a Gardening Weekend

The Inn at Silver Maple Farm will host the second gardening seminar March 17 – 19. The seminar is presented by Kerry Mendez of Perennially Yours. The class, which will run from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, includes a continental breakfast, lunch buffet, a garden gift, extensive handouts, PowerPoint presentations, a colorful catalog from Proven Winner ColorChoice Flowering Shrubs, a chance to win super door prizes, and dollar-off coupons for perennials from participating nurseries. The Ghent Playhouse will be featuring Side by Side by Sondheim from March 23 – April 9. This is a two act musical review of selected songs from some of Stephen Sondheim’s earlier shows and it will be directed by Meg Dooley. Attend a Benefit Concert

Dollars for Scholars of Taconic Hills is sponsoring a concert to raise money for scholarships. The Earth Angels will perform on March 24 and March 25 at the Taconic Hills Performing Arts Center. The doors open at 6:30 pm and the show starts at 7:25 pm. The Earth Angels is a non-profit organization that is comprised of local citizens that perform musical productions to raise funds for the benefit of other local non-profit organizations.
