Celebrate 4th of July!
The Columbia County Fairgrounds will host Family Fest on Friday, July 4 from 3:00 to 9:30 pm. Admission is only $5 (free for kids under age 3) and will feature free kiddie rides, live music and more. Come and enjoy pony rides, face painting, climbing wall, hay maze, magic show and lots of food and games. End the evening with a great fireworks display. Enjoy an Old-Fashioned Independence Day
Clermont State Historic Site will host the annual Old-Fashioned Independence Day on Friday, July 4 from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The event will feature kids' contests and crafts, live music, story telling, free treats, and rebellious English Colonists. For a cost of only $7 per vehicle families can enter the festival grounds for an entire day's worth of excitement, culminating in an exquisite view of the Saugerties fireworks after dark. PS/21, Performing Spaces for the 21st Century kicked off its Free Movie Tuesday in June with classic musical films. In July five free movies will be featured and start at 8:30 pm. On July 1 you can enjoy That's Dancing, on July 8 you can get nostalgic about Dirty Dancing, the 1980's hit, on July 15 enjoy At The Circus, the 1937 Marx Bros. film, on July 22 enjoy The Red Violin and on July 29 you can enjoy Footloose, another 1980's hit. Take Your Dog on a Walk in Hudson
Walking the dog Theater will host the first annual "walkingthedog Walk 2008". The parade and fair will be held on Saturday, July 12. Register your dog with the theatre or at The Spotty Dog in Hudson or Red Maple Books in Harlemville. The event will include a dog parade down Warren Street that will lead all dogs and fellow participants into Walking the dog Theater/Basilica Industria on Front Street in Hudson. The dog walk kicks off from 10:00 am to noon. The day will culminate with the "Bestminister" Dog Show and Mini-Country Fair from 12:00 to 2:00 pm and will include food, drinks, music and more. The Spencertown Academy Arts Center will feature the Hidden Gardens of Spencertown on Saturday, July 12 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The event will feature self-guided tours of four local gardens at the height of their summer glory. You can visit the garden restoration at Steepletop, home of poet Edna St. Vincent Millay. Gourmet boxed lunches will be provided at Columbia Land Conservancy's Oom's Conservation at Sutherland Pond. You can also purchase unusual plants for adventurous gardeners. Run Away with the Cirkus and be Home by Bedtime
The Circus is a great art form which combines physical discipline and fitness with mental agility and creativity. Bindlestiff Family Cirkus is offering two ways to try these exciting skills this summer - one-day introductory class, and a 5 day intensive workshop for youths 8-18. The free one day class will be held on Tuesday, July 22 at the Hudson Opera House and will teach youth basic juggling and other fun Circus Skills. The 5 day workshop will be held Monday, July 28 through Friday, August 1 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm daily at Time and Space Limited. The workshop will explore juggling, acrobatics and partner balance, clowning and showmanship all with a grand finale public performance starring the youth participants. Remember Bobbie Sox and Poodle Skirts? If you do, you'll love Chatham on July 26. The GTO's, a Doo-Woop Acapella Group will be singing your favorite street corner songs, bringing back many memories of happy times long past. They will be on the porch of the Chatham House from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. The show is sponsored by Native Clay. The Chatham House will have a BBQ and beer for sale during the show.
