Attend the Columbia County Fair

End your summer fun by attending the Columbia County Fair. The Fair opened on August 27 and runs through Labor Day. Enjoy great food, animals, exhibits, vendors, live music, midway, fireworks, demolition derby and much more. The Fair is jam-packed with a fantastic line-up of entertainment and non-stop action. Check out the website for more detailed information about what is happening each day. For more information about the Columbia County Fair call (518) 392-2121 or visit their website at www.columbiafair.com.

Visit Valatie Night Out - First Friday of each Month

On the first Friday of every month, everyone can enjoy Valatie Night Out. Main Street businesses will be open until 9:00 pm starting on September 5. The Columbia Cafe offer gourmet, delicious dinners from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Evenstar Book and Gift Emporium will host Prudence Theriault who will be available to read Tarot from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Appointments are recommended. Call (518) 758-2616 for more information. Great Finds, Little Falls Country Store and Ice Cream Parlor and The Lil Toy Store will extend their hours and offer specials for the evening. For more information about Valatie Night Out call Evenstar at (518) 758-2616 or visit their website at www.evenstarbook.com.

The Mac-Haydn Theatre will feature "High School Musical" from September 4-14 to cap off their wonderful Ruby Jubilee 40th Anniversary season. Popular with all ages, the show is a favorite of teenagers, with music and dancing that they can especially enjoy. High School Musical features Troy and Gabrielle, who meet on a New Year's trip, and are surprised to see each other again at Troy's high school, where Gabrielle just enrolled. The plot touches on many high school situations, including having to make choices in what teens really want most to do: play basketball or be in the school musical, go with the "in" crowd or be themselves. Attend the Festival of Books

The Spencertown Academy Arts Center will host the annual Festival of Books from September 5-7 and September 12-14. This year's festival promises plenty of interest bibliophiles, with more than 10,000 books for purchase and appearances by more than a dozen acclaimed authors including Russell Banks and Mary Gordon. Admission to the Festival of Books, including all author readings, panel discussions and children's events are free. The opening night preview on Friday, September 5 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm featuring wine and hors d'oeuvres is $25. Tickets for the Harvest Dinner on Saturday, September 13 at 6:00 pm, which honors the distinguished authors participating in the festival are $125. For tickets or more information about Spencertown Academy Arts Center call (518) 392-3693 or visit their website at www.spencertownacademy.org.

Listen to Live Music

PS/21 in Chatham for the second consecutive year, presents two bellissimo cellissimo evenings with leading cello guru Yehuda Hanani and a chorus of stunning young players. Set against the picturesque backdrop of PS/21, Cellobration will begin at 6:00 pm on Friday, September 5 and Saturday, September 6 and will feature passionate Mediterranean, Latin American, Baroque and American folk music, full of color and contrasts. For tickets or more information about PS/21 call (518) 392-6121 or visit their website at www.ps21chatham.org.

The Theater Barn will feature "Visiting Mr. Green" from September 5-14. Attend a Celebration of Dogs

Clermont State Historic Site will host its very first Three Dog Nights on Saturday, September 6 from 2:30 to 5:00 pm. You can enjoy Clermont's beautiful surroundings while supporting local dogs in need and enjoying an upscale (and dog-friendly) reception and lecture. Clermont will host a fund raiser for a local charity. Pet portrait shoots, dog walks, and more will benefit our visiting organizations. For more information about Clermont State Historic Site call (518) 537-4240 or visit their website at www.friendsofclermont.org.

Enjoy Live Comedy

Columbia Arts Team will host Saturday Night Liv on Friday, September 12 at 8:00 pm at the Basilica in Hudson. Chamber members can receive a discount for this show for only $10 and are invited to a special reception at 7:30 pm. Regular tickets are $18 at the door and $15 for students, seniors and veterans. Saturday Night Liv is a live variety show where almost anything can happen...great singers and songwriters, sketch comedy, musical theater moments in a short variety. A second family performance will be held on Saturday, September 13 at 7:00 pm at the Copake Town Park Building. For more information about Columbia Arts Team call (518) 800-816-4802 or visit their website at www.columbiaartsteam.org.

See the Manhattan Short Film Festival

Space 360 has been selected as the Hudson Valley venue for this year's Manhattan Short Film Festival. Space 360 is among 116 cities in 42 countries, across 4 continents to be participating. The Festival now in its 11th year will be held from September 21 through 28 across Europe, Australia and North and Central America. There will be 295 screenings with audiences topping 50,000 people during the week. Each venue will be showing 12 short films for a total performance time of 2 hours. Space 360 will be hosting the films on September 21 at 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm and again on September 25, 26, 27 at 2:00, 5:00 and 7:00 pm. At the end each viewing audience will vote on their favorite films. For more information aboutSpace 360 call (518) 697-3360 or visit their website at www.360warren.com.
