Columbia County Bounty is announcing the third annual “Taste of Columbia County Bounty,” which will take place on Monday, August 2, 2010 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Columbia County Fairgrounds in Chatham. This delightful event is a fundraiser for the Columbia County Bounty program and brings together the finest farmers, producers, chefs and processors from Columbia County and the Hudson Valley. Come and enjoy a summer’s evening of great food featuring the finest local products. Tickets cost $75 general admission, $25 for children ages 7-12, $10 for children under the age of 7, and $50 for Columbia County Bounty members. Attend a Series of Great Performances

The Taconic Stage Company is conducting two very unique plays this August. The first production called “Senior Moments” is a light hearted comedy of the golden years playing August 6th and 7th. The second is a comedy called “Private Lives”, a witty performance that answers the question “What could possibly go wrong on our honeymoon?” This show will be playing Fridays and Saturdays, August 20th to September 4th. These plays are paired with a dinner on the Copake Lake in the beautiful setting of the Lighthouse Marina. Dinner begins at 7:00pm and the show begins as 8:00pm. Participate in a Car Show, or Come to Observe Some Beautiful Cars

 Whittier will be hosting their 8th Annual Car Show on August 7th free to the public. The show is open to all ages and vehicles will be displayed on the grass. There will be entertainment by Johnny Cassera and Bill Williams from 98.5FM. Vendors, activities for children, and delicious food prepared by Whittier’s famous Chef Donna will also be available. History Saturday: Grow Your Summer Clothes- Flax!

On Saturday August 8th at the Luykas Van Alen House and Ichabod Crane Schoolhouse people of all ages are invited to learn about how families in Columbia County, including the Van Alens, would have made much of their summer clothing from flax, which was grown on the farm. Learn about harvesting flax, try your hand at processing it, and create a printed towel. Children ages 6-10 will enjoy this activity and their families will as well! Participate in an Ecology Walk

On August 21st from 2:00pm to 4:00pm the Columbia Land Conservancy is co-sponsoring a walk called “Wet Meadows and Shrubby Hillsides.” The walk will be held with Conrad and Claudia Vispo from the Farmscape Ecology Program at Hawthorne Valley Farm, which is protected with CLC easement.  The walk will take you to different parts of the farm, introducing you to various on-farm habitats and their wild inhabitants. Treat the Family to a Night Out

 The Town of Kinderhook is hosting “Family Night” on the Village Square every Friday night in August from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. The Ghent Band will be performing from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. A light menu and desserts will be available on the square starting at 6:30pm provided by: the Kinderhook Tri-Village Rotary, Boy Scouts #113, Bean’s Place, and the Carolina House.

Attend a Play

Stageworks Hudson is hosting a play called The Amish Project from August 18th to September 5th. Through the innocent voice of Velda, a young Amish girl, unfolds an extraordinarily poignant fictional exploration of real life events. This performance tells the story of a loss in an Amish community and the path of compassion forged in its wake. Watch an Outdoor Movie

Come enjoy an outdoor movie hosted by TSL located in The Pocket Park on 330 Warren Street. There are three very entertaining movies playing this August. On Aug. 6th Kiss Me Kate will be played which tells the story of two once-married, now divorced stage actors who perform opposite each other in a Broadway version of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Screw and whose story hilariously parallels that of the play in which they co-star. On Aug. 20th March of the Penguins will be shown, a film that follows the remarkable lives of King Penguins as they survive and raise their young in one of the harshest environments on Earth - Antarctica. On Aug. 27th the film Ratatouille will be shown which tells the story of a rat who dreams of becoming a top chef in Paris. Films are free to the public and start at 8:00pm, or whenever it gets dark. Enjoy a Family Day at Olana

Explore the house, its paintings and treasures from a child's perspective. Take the family tour and then stop by the Wagon House Education Center for Art in the Barn, or borrow a backpack full of activities to do on the grounds - a family day at Olana couldn't be more perfect! Tours are geared for families with 6-12 year-olds, but all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The tour begins at 11:30am on Saturday August 28th at the Visitor Center. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, and free for children under 12 or members of The Olana Partnership. Reservations are required by 4pm the preceding Friday. Attend a Famous Production

This August two well known productions will be performed at Mac-Hayden Theatre. From August 5th-8th and 11th-15th “Life is a banquet" in the charming, delightful, happily eccentric performance Mame. This is a story of growing up with everyone's favorite "Auntie!" featuring the songs "It's Today, We Need A Little Christmas, If He Walked Into My Life," and the rousing title song - don't miss it!  On August 19th-22nd and 25th-29th performers will take the stage in Showboat, the beloved classic favorite that “just keeps rollin’ along”.
