The brand new musical comedy by local writer/artistic director, Carl Ritchie and Los Angeles composer, Wayne Moore, “The Real (Desperate) Housewives of Columbia County!” tells the story of five funny, fabulous women. Two are locals and two are weekenders, in a world where there may be ups and downs and the occasional cat fight, but Happy Hour is always just around the corner. The new show is based – very loosely - on those ubiquitous Reality TV shows. The hilarious musical numbers are all new songs such as, “Don’t Fool Around on Your Broker”, “Shop Till You Drop” and “A Good Handyman is Hard to Find”. Shows will be performed at 8:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays beginning July 29 through August at the Lighthouse Marina and Restaurant overlooking Copake lake. Dinner at 7:00 pm and show immediately following will again cost only $40, with a full cash bar available. Matinees Sundays, August 7th, 14th, 21st only. Shows at 2 PM - lunch from 1 PM. For more information call (518) 325-1234 or visit www.taconicstage.com.

On Saturday, August 27th PS21 presents a large-scale mask and puppet theatre production by Arm-of-the-Sea Theater. "To Fuel the Fire" is an allegory about the ecological costs of acquiring and delivering energy. Performances will be held at 3:00 and 7:00 pm. Created after the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, this original show features two mythological characters drawn from Ancient Egypt and recast as an immigrant couple running a soup shop on the modern-day Gulf Coast. From their ancient rounds of planting, harvesting, cooking and composting, Isis and Osiris feed generations of workers sent to gather fuel. After the disastrous oil rig explosion, they use their powers to restore the waters of life. This tragic comedy features primordial masks and kinetic puppet figures, vivid paintings, whimsical props and live music. Larger than life size characters, surprising scene transformations and live music imbue each performance with lyrical energy. For more information about PS21 call (518) 392-6121 or visit their website at www.ps21chatham.org. |
