and Greene County Chambers to Host Superintendents Breakfast
Hudson,
NY – The Columbia and Greene County Chambers of Commerce will
host the 4th Annual Superintendents Brunch on Thursday, August
21. Join us to hear about “Childhood Obesity-Community Partnerships
in Action.” at this forum. This special program will discuss
the critical importance addressing the rising prevalence of
childhood obesity and encourage the implementation of programming
that supports healthy lifestyle habits. Through partnerships
between schools, non-profits, government agencies and the
local business community, we can work collaboratively to achieve
this goal.
The
brunch is a joint effort between the Columbia County Chamber
of Commerce and the Columbia County Community Healthcare Consortium
along with the Greene County Chamber of Commerce. The program
will feature a keynote by Cynthia A. Jaconski, MPH, CHES,
Coordinator, Steps to a Healthier NY, NYS DOH. Ms. Jaconski
will be speaking about the program she launched in 2004 that
included Broome, Chautauqua, Jefferson and Rockland Counties
. Steps to a Healthier NY was a 5-year cooperative agreement
program that funds states, cities and tribal entities to implement
chronic disease prevention efforts focused on reducing the
burden of obesity in children and other topics. Ms. Jaconski
will speak about her success with this program in the five
counties she has worked with.
The
program will also feature guest speaker Laura Pensiero of
Gigi Hudson Valley whose has done extensive research in this
area. The Columbia County Community Healthcare Consortium
will talk about the program they are currently running in
Columbia County called “Kids in Motion”. They are working
with Columbia County schools in an effort to implement programs
that supports healthy lifestyle habits.
The
purpose of the brunch is to bring business and education leaders
together to discuss collaboration and opportunities for graduating
students at local companies. Other topics discussed will include:
an overview of Chamber programs including the B.E.S.T. Program
and Pathways to Employment program. The brunch will end with
a time for local education and business leaders to network.
The
program will be held from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Columbia-Greene
Community College in the Student Center . The cost of the
breakfast is $15. Columbia-Greene Community College is located
at 4400 Route 23 in Hudson . Please contact the Columbia County
