Chamber
Encourages Participation in Hometown Heroes
Hudson,
NY – The American Red Cross of Northeastern New York will
soon be recognizing ordinary people who do extraordinary things
through their annual “Salute to Hometown Heroes”.
The
Chamber encourages the businesses and communities in Columbia
County to participate by nominating neighbors, friends, and
professionals you know who go beyond the “norm” to make life
better for those around them. Nominations are broken
into various categories including:
- Capital Communications
Federal Credit Union Humanitarian Award--presented to an
individual who has shown tremendous commitment to his or
her community.
- CDPHP Firefighter
Award—presented to a paid or volunteer firefighter who has
demonstrated courage and compassion, continually going beyond
the call of duty.
- Hannay Reels Rescue
Squad Worker Award—presented to a paid or volunteer rescue
squad worker who has demonstrated courage and compassion,
going beyond the call of duty to support his or her team
and members of their community.
- Tri-City Valley
Cat Law Enforcement Award—presented to a law enforcement
worker who has demonstrated courage, strength, and compassion.
- Excelsior College
Nursing Award—presented to an individual who consistently
combines skill and compassion to care for people who are
ill o r unable to care for themselves.
- IAMS Pet Food Pet
Rescue Award—presented to a person or special animal. Incident
can involve an animal that has protected a person in time
of need, a person who rescued an animal from a traumatic
situation or an animal that provides every day support to
a person in a very special way.
- NYS United Teachers
Youth Hero Award—presented to an individual or group under
the age of 18 years who has demonstrated courage and/or
compassion in support of others.
“There
are many local heroes in Columbia County --people who make
a difference every day in our safety, our lives, our future,”
stated Chamber President David Colby. “The Chamber encourages
the community to nominate their heroes and participate in
this commendable endeavor.” Applications must be received
by The American Red Cross prior to February 17 and can be
completed on-line at www.redcrossneny.org.
