Holiday Business After Hours at the James Vanderpoel House- December 10, 2009
Join the Chamber for a festive holiday event as the James Vanderpoel House hosts the annual Holiday Business After Hours on Thursday, December 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  The event is being co-hosted by Columbia County Historical Society and the Kinderhook Bank.  Business After Hours will give members the opportunity to network and enjoy great hors d'oeuvres and cocktails.  The James Vanderpoel House is a distinguished example of Federal period architecture. Originally the home of a prominent lawyer and politician, James Vanderpoel, and his family, the house and its furnishings reflect an elegant lifestyle in a prosperous, early 19th-century village.  James Vanderpoel House is located at 16 Broad Street in Kinderhook.   Please click here for more information.
21st Annual Crystal Apple Award Gala - Chamber Seeks Nominations
The Chamber is seeking nominations for the 21st annual Crystal Apple Award Gala.  This prestigious award is presented to a Chamber member business to recognize an extraordinary contribution to economic progress, community improvement, and the quality of life in Columbia County during 2009.  All Chamber member businesses are eligible and candidate nominations will be accepted until January 4, 2010.  The Gala will be held on Friday, February 26, 2010 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.  Please click here for more information and for a nomination form.
Promote Your Business in the January 2010 Chamber Connection Mailing

Chamber Stats

On behalf of Governor Patterson and the New York State Workforce Investment Board, the New York State Department of Labor announced a Building Skills in New York State award to COARC in the amount o $14946.  COARC will apply this funding to employee training in management skills, fire and life safety codes, electrical skills for maintenance staff, and nutritional and culinary skills for direct support professionals.  COARC is a Columbia County nonprofit organization whose mission is expanding abilities, one person at a time, so individuals experiencing disabilities can achieve their personal goals.  For more information about COARC call (518) 672-4451 or visit their website at www.COARC.org.

Northeast Parent & Child Society, a child welfare agency headquartered in Schenectady, has launched a new Holiday Hope Fund to serve hundreds more impoverished Children and families in need throughout the greater Capital Region. Their requests for the holiday season are simple, ranging from toys and games to basic necessities like personal care and household items. Northeast Parent & Child Society encourage community members to participate in the Holiday Hope Fund by donating, shopping or volunteering. Community Events


The Columbia County Historical Society will present the annual Gallery of Wreaths and Holiday Craft Boutique.  Individuals and businesses throughout the county donate beautifully crafted wreaths for silent auction.  Bids will be accepted when the Vanderpoel House is open to the public.  Bidding closes at 3:15 on December 13th.  The Holiday Craft Boutique will feature handmade items crafted by many talented artists from Columbia County.  These are only two of the many Special Holiday Events happening in December.  For more information about the Columbia County Historical Society call (518) 758-9265 or visit their website at www.cchsny.org.

Get ready for a Winter Walk on Warren Street on Saturday, December 5 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.  Hudson's main street will be transformed into a winter wonderland, as the Hudson Opera House presents "A Winter Walk on Warren Street". This eagerly-awaited event kicks off the holiday season in historic Hudson.  Always held on the first Saturday in December, this festive holiday celebration is now in its 13th year and has become a premier event in the Hudson Valley.  Winter Walk features dancers, storytellers, and musicians performing in shop windows, horse-drawn carriage rides, live reindeer and a Santa Parade.  Groups of carolers stroll the streets, along with the walking Gingerbread Witch, Elves of all sizes and other characters. Walking the Dog Theater will feature Charles Dickens, "A Christmas Carol", December 4-20 at Space 360 in Hudson.  This seasonal favorite creates the experience of Charles Dickens' tour of New England, when the author performed his famous story for American audiences.  David Anderson, who performed the story last year with musical accompaniment by Jonathan Talbott, dramatizes the story in an intimate setting at Space 360.  For tickets or more information about Walking the Dog Theater call (518) 610-0909 or visit their website at www.wtdtheater.org


On Friday, December 11 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm, the Kinderhook Village will come alive for the annual Candlelight Night.  Luminaries will light your way through the Village to enjoy a little Holiday Cheer.  Stroll along to see what the local merchants have to offer or take a horse drawn wagon ride. Come see Santa, holiday carolers, and more.  Enjoy the Gallery of Wreaths, Greens Show and holiday boutique at the Columbia County Museum and James Vanderpoel House.  Don't miss teen night upstairs at the Village Hall.  There will be music and games all evening.  The event is sponsored by the Kinderhook Business and Professional Association.  For more information about Candlelight Night visit their website at www.kbpa.org.

Main Street Valatie comes to life on Saturday, December 12 for the annual Winter Walk from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.  The festivities will begin at 6:00 pm with a rousing parade beginning at the Valatie Firehouse, traveling down the Main Street and ending up at Glynn Square. Hayrides will begin immediately following the parade.  Fun activities, great food, bargains and much more can be found all along Main Street. Children can have their pictures taken with Santa Claus at the Valatie Theater and Mrs. Claus will be on hand at Hennessy Insurance to give out balloons.  For more information about Winter Walk in Valatie call Evenstar at (518) 758-2616 or the Hair Zone at (518) 758-7800.
