Chamber
Hosts Meeting About New Farm to Chef Initiative
Hudson,
NY – There are many restaurateurs and chefs in the County
that are very interested in using local produce in their place
of business. On August 8, a meeting was held with farmers
and chefs to discuss making more locally grown produce available
to chefs.
The
Chamber of Commerce, along with the Columbia Hudson Partnership
and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia County brought
together over 40 farmers and chefs to discuss this exciting
initiative at the meeting held at Holmquest Farm in Greenport.
During
the two hour meeting ideas were discussed that will create
better communication and understanding between the farmers
and chefs. Obstacles to overcome include: an understanding
of each others businesses, transportation of goods and common
methods of communication. This meeting resulted in the establishment
of many new relationships and started a dialogue that will
be continued through future meetings.
Any
interested farmers, chefs or food producers who would like
to be involved should contact David Colby at the Chamber at
828-4417.
