21st Annual Crystal Apple Award Gala - February 26, 2010
The Chamber is pleased to announce the six finalists for the 21st Annual Crystal Apple Award Gala. The Columbia County Community Healthcare Consortium is working with the Greene County Rural Health Network to obtain the insights and opinions of local businesses on ways to improve the health status of employees and their families in both counties. COARC’s Polar Plunge is Saturday, February 20th at Camp Mahican, 3 Cross Street in Copake, NY, 12516. Festivities are open to the public and begin at 1:00 p.m. with warm drinks, snacks, music and an appearance by Smiles, the COARC Butterfly mascot. The swimmers will brave the freezing water at 1:30 p.m. Donors can sponsor a swimmer and volunteers can join the plunge.  The money raised will benefit COARC programs, such as a new playground at The Starting Place preschool in Hudson and other COARC services for individuals who experience disabilities.  For more information about COARC or the Polar Plunge call 518-672-4451 or visit their website at www.COARC.org.

Community Events

Bindlestiff Family Cirkus will be having an afterschool Juggling Circus Arts program, Starts on February 3, 2010 at 3:00PM and ends on June 2, 2010.  Reoccurs weekly on Wednesday. Juggling and other arts from the circus tent are an active, non-competitive way for kids to engage the physical realm of movement with the creative impulse. Participants will learn juggling and prop manipulation, along with cool stunts like stilt walking and tightwire walking. A public show in late May will feature the new skills learned in Chatham's own Mini-Cirkus!   It will be held at the Morris Memorial, Park Row, Chatham.  8 week session #1 February 3- March 31 (no class 2/17);  8 week session #2 April 14-June 2;  meets every Wednesday that CCSD is in session  Cost is $120 per 8 week session.  3:00-4:00 beginners;  4:00-5:30 pm advanced.  For more information contact (518) 828-7470 or visit their website at www.bindlestiff.org.

Olana presents President's Day Weekend Tours:  Lincoln, Church and the U.S. Civil War.  When the U.S. Civil War broke out in 1861, all citizens were effected in some way and artist Frederic Edwin Church was no exception.  Join us for the themed tours that shed a little light on the influence of the Civil War on Church and his art.  Cost is $9/Adult and $8 for Students and Seniors, free for children under 12 and members of The Olana Partnership.  For more information call (518) 828-0135 or visit their website at www.olana.org.

The Two of Us Productions presents a Murder Mystery on March 6 at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall of the Reformed Dutch Church of Claverack (Rt 9H N).  "Some Show" will be presented in an old time radio talk show format with all murders taking place off stage.  An old time favorite dessert will be served in a cabaret setting preceeding the performance.  Adults are $12 and Students (Middle and High School) are $7.00.  To reserve your places, please contact the Reformed Dutch Church of Claverack at (518) 851-3811.
