The Chatham Business Alliance will be sponsoring Summerfest 2011 in the historic Village of Chatham on Saturday July 9th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. You are invited to join merchants and area not-for-profits for a day of sales, information, raffles, music, and good eating. Downtown merchants will have tables of great bargains on the sidewalk in front of their shops. Dozens of not-for-profit groups will share information about their causes. On Friday, July 22 Eric Bibb will perform at Helsinki Hudson at 9:00 pm. For more than four decades, Eric Bibb, a seasoned Grammy and WC Handy nominated gentleman of song has brought his thoughtful music, soulful voice and blues laced guitar picking to listeners around the world.
Bibb has deep roots in American blues and folk tradition. The son of 1960s folk legend, Leon Bibb, Eric’s uncle was the jazz pianist and composer John Lewis of the Modern Jazz Quartet, and Paul Robeson was his godfather. After 19 albums, his newest and some feel finest recording features Bonnie Raitt and Ruthie Foster and the results are dazzling. On Saturday, July 30th, the first annual Friends of the Farmer Festival will allow guests to experience the richness and diversity of the Hudson Valley locavore movement and give them the opportunity to meet and learn from the people who make it all possible; the farmers, growers, specialty food producers, chefs, restaurateurs, winemakers, brewers and distillers. The brand new musical comedy by local writer/artistic director, Carl Ritchie and Los Angeles composer, Wayne Moore. “The Real (Desperate) Housewives of Columbia County!” tells the story of five funny, fabulous women. Two are locals and two are weekenders, in a world where there may be ups and downs
and the occasional cat fight, but Happy Hour is always just around the corner. The new show is based – very loosely - on those ubiquitous Reality TV shows. The hilarious musical numbers are all new songs such as, “Don’t Fool Around on Your Broker”, “Shop Till You Drop” and “A Good Handyman is Hard to Find”. Shows will be performed at 8:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays beginning July 29 through August at the Lighthouse Marina and Restaurant overlooking the lake. The 12th Annual Blueberry Festival is always held the last Sunday in July - this year the Festival will be held Sunday, July 31, 2011 on the grounds of Old Austerlitz from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The event will feature early 19th Century craft demonstrations and wares, antiques, live music and entertainment for children, many different vendors and a variety of foods to feed the masses. There will be blueberries galore and a blueberry pancake breakfast. Festival Admission is $6 for adults and children under 12 get in for free.
