On Saturday, March 12 at 8:00 pm at the Hudson Opera House enjoy a performance by Madera Vox. Oboist Nicole Golay, bassoonist Cornelia McGiver, pianist Sylvia Buccelli, soprano Kelly Ellenwood and percussionist-composer David Gluck combine traditional repertoire with original works. With innovative arrangements of Curt Cobain, Kurt Weill, Libby Larsen, Dana Wilson, and jazz composer Chick Corea, as well as newly commissioned pieces. At Olana on Saturday, March 12 at 11:30 am you can explore the house, its paintings and treasures from a child's perspective. Tours are geared for families with 6-12 year olds, but all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. On Sunday, March 13 at 4:00 pm at Helsinki Hudson you can hear the beautiful sounds of Bard Conservatory's Top String Talent, The Chimeng Quartet. Artistic Director Gwen Gould is keen on introducing this extraordinarily talented quartet following their 2010 Silver Medal award at the prestigious Fischoff Competition, the world's largest chamber music competition. Chimeng translates to "enlightenment" and this remarkable young ensemble will certainly illuminate the house as their skill and interpretation is nothing short of mesmerizing. Have you ever witnessed a large number of salamanders and frogs crossing the road on rainy spring nights, or If you ever wondered where they came from and where they're going? Each spring, frogs and salamanders travel long distances from their forest habitats to breed in small wetlands called "woodland pools." Unfortunately, migration pathways often cross roads and long driveways, leading to mortality of slow-moving wildlife, even in low traffic areas. Come and find out the answer. The Ghent Playhouse presents "The Heiress" beginning March 25 running through April 10.
"The Heiress" is a gripping drama set in nineteenth century New York City about a shy young woman, her controlling father, her flighty aunt and the suitor who enters their lives.
