Attend a Reading of Essie & Roe

A return engagement of Spencertown Academy’s “Works in Progress” Series takes place on Saturday, November 6, at 4:00 p.m. when eleven actors revisit the stage for a dramatic reading of Essie & Roe, a screen play which debuted to a sold-out audience in June.  Written by Chatham’s Elizabeth Wilen-Berg and Rose Ross, it was adapted for the stage and directed by Mark Dalton.  Essie & Roe follows the adventures of two schoolgirls who meet in the immigrant neighborhoods of New York City’s old South Bronx.  Admission to the performance of Essie & Roe is $12 / $10 for Academy members. Take a GhostWALK in Hudson

For the second year, Bindlestiff Family Variety Arts, Inc. and Walking the dog Theater present GhostWALK Hudson: Ghost Story Walking Tour on Friday, November 5, 2010, you can stroll on Hudson's historic Columbia and Warren Streets, and visit spooky locations where original ghost stories will be told by young actors from Walking the dog Theater's  Afterschool Drama Program. Tickets are  $5. The box office, located at the Cannonball Factory at 359-361 Columbia Street, will open at 5:30 pm. Annual Fall Barn-Raiser

Saturday, November 6, 2010. Equine Advocates Second Annual Fall Barn-Raiser, a fund-raiser for Equine Advocates at the organization's horse sanctuary in Chatham, NY.  Hosted  by Three-Time Academy Award nominee & Tony Award-winning actress, Joan Allen featuring a special performance with amazing horses and wonderfully talented dancers of RIDE: The Equestrian Dance Theater by Paula Josa-Jones/Performance.  Lunch with Joan Allen and Performance of RIDE- $150 per person.  Performance of RIDE alone - $50 per person.  RIDE to be performed in the outdoor arena.  All tickets must be purchased in advance.  Please call 518-392-0175.

Learn to Draw
Hudson Opera House offers a Workshop:  Drawing from the beginning:  Portraiture with Maj Kalfus on Sundays, 2:00 - 4:00 pm, November 7, 14, 21 (skip Nov. 28), Dec. 5.  $80/$70 HOH members (Four sessions).  For beginners or those who just want to have fun drawing.  Learning to draw the face and creating a likeness using photographs, each other, a live model and images from famous artists.  The focus will be on line, shading, anatomy of the face, neck and torso and creative uses of pastels and color. For more information call (518) 822-1438 or visit their website at www.hudsonoperahouse.org.

Stop in at the Winery

On Saturday, November 20, the Hudson-Chatham Winery will be hosting its 3rd Annual Bread, Wine & Cheese event. During the winery's regular hours of 12 to 5 pm, guests will have the opportunity to meet with several local cheesemakers, who will be on hand to talk about what they do and also sample their cheeses. River Street Bakers from Catskill will have a selection of their incredible baked goods; Micosta will have their artisanal goodies produced from local ingredients; and, of course, there will be tastings of Hudson-Chatham's award-winning wines. Attend a Holiday Bazaar

The Reformed Dutch Church of Claverack celebrates 50 years of Annual Holiday Bazaars on Saturday, November 20, 2010 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Along with hundreds of homemade items for your home, you will discover unique holiday gifts, holiday decorations, and delicious breads, cakes, cookies, and pies.  Special items will be for sale in several booths which are duplicates of those sold years ago. Recipes are being found in personal collections which bring back the favorite food and baked items.  A unique etched glass frame commemorating the celebration will be sold at the Home Boutique booth.  A Silent Auction, Trifles and Treasures Table and a luncheon in the Pine Room complete the fellowship and fun of this event.  The church’s address is:  88 Highway 9-H, Claverack, New York 12513.  The church is located ¼ mile north of the 9-H and 23 B traffic light in the Village of Claverack.  For more information visit their website at www.claverackreformedchurch.org.

Time & Space Limited / TSL will screen the Met Opera: Live in HD production of Donizettiʼs DON PASQUALE on Saturday, November 20 and Sunday, November 21 at 1:00pm. Anna Netrebko sings Norina, the role that made her a Met star, in this spirited comedy, with Matthew Polenzani as Ernesto,  Mariusz Kwiecien as Dr. Malatesta, and John Del Carlo in  the title role. See a Play
The Ghent Playhouse presents Lost: The Grimm Years.  November 26th through December 12th. Friday and Saturday at 8:00PM and Sunday at 2:00PM.  Saturday November 27th there's an additional 5:00PM show!  Take one part Little Red Riding Hood, add two parts Hansel and Gretel, mix liberally with lots of schtick, toss in some songs and you have a recipe for lots of fun.  Another wacky way-out fairy story from the pen of Judy Staber.
