Claverack Free Library will host the library’s annual fall book sale on Saturday and Sunday, October 1st and 2nd. The sale runs on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Saturday, home-made breads, cookies, cakes and brownies, coffee and luncheon will be served in the café tent, and activities for children will be available. Raffle tickets will be sold and the drawing will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. The library is at the intersection of Routes 23B and 9H in Claverack. If the term "HOT STUFF" automatically refers to anything you cook, then the 5th annual Riverfront Chili Contest is made to order. The Columbia County Council on the Arts will present the 17th annual ArtsWalk from October 7th -10th. celebrating the rich array of artists and arts activities in our beautiful corner of the world. Artswalk encourages visitors to drive up and down scenic Route 66 for activities in both Hudson and in Chatham as well. Many artists will be represented this year at the members show in the Fairhouse at the Columbia County Fairgrounds located in the Chatham. Many works in all media will be displayed all weekend. Monday, October 10, Taconic Foundation is sponsoring a community day on the waterfront featuring the sloop Clearwater. Beginning at 11:00 am the legendary sloop Clearwater will be in port at the Henry Hudson Riverfront Park. There will be tours of the sloop, ecology demonstrations, folk music and a farmers market open to all. Also, a limited number of tickets will be available for a sunset cruise from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. |

FilmColumbia returns for another festival season on Wednesday, October 19. Hosted by The Chatham Film Club, the festival will screen more than 30 independent films, documentaries, shorts and animations from around the world. FilmColumbia unfolds with award-winning screenings and sneak previews. The festival will be held at the historic Crandell Theatre along with the Morris Memorial Community Center and Tracy Memorial Hall. Tickets can be purchased during the festival at the Tracy Memorial Hall. FilmColumbia runs for five days from October 19-23. Artisan categories include jewelry, fabric art, woodwork, pottery, fine food, wine and much more. Includes separate gallery art showing. Scarecrow contest with Children and Adult division. It is almost time for the ghosts and ghouls to come out to play! Halloween will be celebrated in Chatham Village on Saturday, October 29th. Lorraine (the guru of puzzles, The Warm Ewe) is arranging another knock-out scavenger hunt. Miss Becky, the good witch, will be reading stories at the Chatham Bookstore (1-3 pm). Beach and Bartolo will host a bean bag toss game and a "guess how many" contest. Chatham Kids will have pumpkin cookies for kids to decorate.
