Local Business Lending a Hand in Disaster Relief Efforts

Columbia County Chamber member GNH Lumber was devastated by flood water in their Windham locations.  To assist this local business, please contact the National Retail Lumberman's Association (NRLA) at (518) 286-1010.  Also, donated manpower is greatly appreciated at their Greenville location to help clean salvageable equipment.  Contact Genn Hagen of GNH Lumber at (518) 966-5333.

Donations are being gathered to help the people of Windham and Prattsville that are in need as a result of Hurricane Irene:

Village Dodge, Inc. 819, Hudson, NY 12534 will be a Columbia County drop off location for any donations for the mountain top relief. They will not accept any money - looking for water, clean cloths, blankets, canned goods non-perishable food.  For information call (518) 828-1585 and ask for Erik or Bo.

Ed Herrington, Inc. has generously offered their Chatham and Hudson sites as drop points for donations.

Attend the Regional Economic Development Council Meeting Forum - September 6

Chamber President, David Colby will be a Guest Speaker at a public forum for The Capital Region Economic Development Council (CREDC) on Tuesday, September 6 in the Saland Forum at Columbia-Greene Community College at 6:30 pm.  The Chamber urges the local business community to attend this important event to give your input. This is the first of three community sessions in our region.  Please click here for further information.

County Supervisors/Leadership Columbia County Alumni Reception – September 14

All public officials and Chamber members are invited to attend the annual County Supervisor’s Reception/Business After Hours on Wednesday, September 14 from 5:00 to 7:00pm. The Chamber holds this annual event to express their gratitude to the Columbia County Board of Supervisors. We encourage members to take this opportunity to network with your community leaders and the new Leadership Columbia County Class of 2011-12.  We are celebrating 20 years of Leadership Columbia County.  The event will be held at the Chamber Office and is free of charge.

The Buy Local Business Expo will be held on Thursday, September 22 at Basilica Hudson. Community Events

Attend a Benefit Play Reading in Remembrance of 9/11 - The Columbia Greene Community College Foundation proudly presents a reading of Kent R. Brown's Award Winning Play "In The Middle of Nowhere" on Saturday, September 10th at 7pm in the Forum of the Professional Academic Center at Columbia-Greene Community College.  Directed by Emmy Award Winning Actor, Director and Columbia County resident Stewart J. Zully the play is a harrowing love story of a middle-aged couple whose lives are change by the advent of terrorism and irrational fear.  The performance, which is in part a reminder of the wide-ranging effects of the events of 9/11, will benefit both the college scholarship fund and the Greenport Rescue Squad.  The two member cast features Eileen Schulyler (Artistic Director of Theater Voices, Capital Rep.) and Malachy Cleary (HBO's Boardwalk Empire). A talkback with the playwright and cast members will follow the reading. Join the BeLo 3rd group for the 3rd Annual Taste of Hudson food festival with over 20 City of Hudson restaurants, caterers, and retail food purveyors. This year’s participants will offer “tastings” of select menu items that highlight the diverse cuisine and dining opportunities in Hudson.  Food lovers can graze their way through appetizers, entrees, gourmet coffee, teas, cheeses and desserts. Tickets are purchased on site the day of the event.  Rain or shine, the event will be held on September 10th under the big tent between 2nd & 3rd on Warren Street.  The festival runs from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. The Columbia Hudson Partnership is pleased to announce the schedule for it's upcoming MicroBusiness Seminar Series.  Classes meet once a week for eight weeks beginning September 20th.  It is designed to help entrepreneurs start or expand a small business in Columbia County, topics range from bookkeeping basics to writing a business plan.  Five hours of free Technical Assistance is offered to all graduates.  The course fee is $150 that is refunded at the end of the session in the form of either a one year Chamber membership of a gift certificate to an office supply store.
