Be a Kid Again at the Columbia County Fair

Get ready to BE A KID AGAIN, this year at the 2010 Columbia County Fair! Jam-packed with entertainment and non-stop action. Everyone’s favorite end-of-summer pastime for six sensational days of excitement. Special guests this year include country singer Craig Morgan and 1964 the Tribute (a tribute to The Beatles). The fair runs everyday September 1-6 at 3:00pm to 11:00pm on Wednesday and from 10:00am to 11:00pm on Thursday to Monday. Learn How to Swing Dance

Professional swing dance instruction to live music will be offered on September 3rd by PS/21 in Chatham. The lesson goes from 7:30pm to 8:00pm held by the Berkshire Bop Society: Lincoln Mayorga, Otto Gardner, Sheri Bauer-Mayorga, Sam Zucchini. Snacks and refreshments will be available. Tour a Historical Church

The Kinderhook Reformed Church was organized by Dutch settlers in 1712 takes pride in its historic 1869 church building. Sit in the pew which commemorates Martin Van Buren’s membership, and view the first Bible translated into Arabic by Cornelius Van Alen Van Dyck.  Tours are held from 10:00am until noon every Saturday in September through Columbus Day weekend. Enjoy Spectacular Shows All Month Long

The Theater Barn in New Lebanon will be hosting their most requested show called The Full Monty from September 1st to 5th. This musical smash hit finds six unemployed steelworkers in Buffalo who devise a bold way to make some cash. They find renewed self esteem, the importance of friendship and the ability to have fun. A real crowd pleaser! The Theater Barn will also be hosting a show called It Had to Be You from September 10th to 26th. In this delightful comedy, a kooky failed actress, health food nut and would-be playwright holds a successful commercial director hostage in her apartment on a snowy Christmas Eve while she pitches both her play and herself. Spend Some Time at Clermont for Various Events

Friends of Clermont will be hosting two interesting events this month. On September 11th a Guided Bird Walk will be held at 9:00am which will involve a light hike around Clermont’s grounds in search of the many varied species that call it home. The walk costs $3 and novices are welcome. On September 12th a Garden Tour lead by Clermont’s own horticulturalist will be held where you will see the gardens in their fall splendor. This tour will include practical instructions on putting your own gardens to bed in the fall as well as historical information about the gardens at Clermont.  Reservations required, cost is $3, tour begins at 1:00pm. Sample Delicious and Diverse Local Cuisine and Dining Opportunities

Join the BeLo 3rd group for the 2nd Annual Taste of Hudson food festival with over 20 City of Hudson restaurants, caterers, and retail food purveyors. This year’s participants will offer “tastings” of select menu items that highlight the diverse cuisine and dining opportunities in Hudson.  Food lovers can graze their way through appetizers, entrees, gourmet coffee, teas, cheeses and desserts. Tickets are purchased on site the day of the event.  Rain or shine, the event will be held on September 11th under the big tent in the 200 block of Warren Street.  The festival runs from 11:00am until 2:00pm. Enjoy an AgriCulture Gallery Exhibit
Join the Columbia County Council on the Arts in the “Scene and Herd” gallery exhibit. This exhibit celebrates nature, landscape, and life in the country.  A tribute to our Agricultural Community. The exhibit is held from 10:30am until 5:00pm from September 1st to 17th. The gallery is located on 209 Warren Street in Hudson. Attend the Annual Harvest Day

The Martin Van Buren National Historic Site will be hosting Harvest Day on September 18th from 1:00pm until 5:00pm. Celebrate the importance of agriculture to our eighth president, Martin Van Buren, and its continued importance to Columbia County, New York. Among this year’s events will be milking, butter making, tinsmithing, broom making, wool dying, sheep shearing, horse shoeing, live music, farm animals, story telling, and free horse drawn wagon rides. Attend the National Theatre of London Live Simulcast: Phèdre(Encore exhibition)

Seen by over 50,000 people worldwide, don't miss your chance to see a screening of the smash hit production Phèdre. Helen Mirren takes the title role in this savage play by Jean Racine, translated into muscular free verse by the late Poet Laureate, Ted Hughes. Consumed by an uncontrollable passion for her young stepson and believing Theseus, her absent husband, to be dead, Phèdre confesses her darkest desires and enters the world of nightmare. When Theseus returns alive and well, Phèdre, fearing exposure, accuses her stepson of rape. The result is carnage. The film starts at 7:00pm on September 23rd at Time and Space Limited in Hudson. Participate in the Greenport 5K Trail Run

Come and join the Columbia Land Conservancy for a run on Saturday September 25th on the trails of the Greenport Conservation Area consisting of 714 acres located in the Town of Greenport.  The moderately difficult trails meander  through open fields, deciduous forests and dense cedar groves to catch magnificent views of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains beyond. There is a $20 registration fee and pre-registration is appreciated. Registration begins at 8:00am and all ages are welcome.
