Leadership Columbia County Now Accepting Applications for 2008-09 Class
Leadership Columbia County is looking for candidates for the Class of 2008-09.  The Chamber Board feels Leadership Columbia County is vital to building strong future leaders that will work in the best interest of the community.  This newly enhanced program includes some of the most popular historical components, but also features new cutting edge speakers, topics and host locations. The program brings together a diverse group of professionals from financial services, education, healthcare, the arts, community organizations, government and other sectors.  We encourage all Columbia County businesses to consider sending an applicant to the program for the 2008-09 class.    Please click here for an application.
Best in Show 2008 Public Art Project - Dog Litter Finds Homes
All sixty of our K-9 friends have found sponsors for the Best in Show public art display.  The fiberglass dogs hand painted by local artists will go up on Warren Street in Hudson during July 4th weekend and will entertain residents and visitors until October 12.  They will be auctioned off on October 12 at the Best in Show Auction & Gala.  Thank you to all of our sponsors for participating in this wonderful community event.  Stay tuned for more information about Best in Show! The event is being produced by the Chamber and Council on the Arts.  For more information contact the Chamber at 828-4417 or mail@columbiachamber-ny.com.
Columbia County Bounty Launches Website
The Columbia County Bounty program officially launched their website, www.columbiacountybounty.com at the Chamber's annual Agricultural Brunch on March 12.  The site will give farmers, chefs and the local consumers the opportunity to learn about what is produced in Columbia County and further foster the relationships between these groups. The website is a benchmark of legitimacy that many similar organizations have struggled to get to. It will give the CCB program the opportunity to keep things current and up to date. The site was designed by Suzanne Trevellyan of Trevellyan Graphic Design.  The brunch focused on "Culinary and Agritourism" and featured a keynote by Mary Kay Vrba of Dutchess County Tourism.   Please click here for more post event information.
Legislative Breakfast - April 4, 2008

Columbia Memorial Hospital Business After Hours - April 24, 2008
Join us as Columbia Memorial Hospital hosts a Business After Hours on Thursday, April 24 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Columbia Memorial serves more than 100,000 residents in Columbia, Greene and Northern Dutchess counties. The hospital focuses on advanced surgery, primary care and health-based education. It is a 192-bed acute care facility. It also operates a 120-bed long-term care site as well as numerous outlying primary care centers and outpatient specialties centers. Women's Networking Luncheon - April 30, 2008

Performing Arts Business Expo- May 1, 2008
The Performing Arts Collective of Columbia County, a newly formed committee of the Chamber is pleased to announce the first Performing Arts Business Expo on Thursday, May 1 at Stageworks/Hudson.  The Business Expo will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 pm and will feature tabletop exhibits and hors d'oeuvres along with a beer and wine tasting. The Business Expo will give the business community the opportunity to learn more about the performing arts community and what's coming up for the season   The Business Expo will be followed by keynote speaker Philip Morris, CEO of Proctor's Theatre who will address the audience about the economic impact of the arts. Morris was recently named New York State Tourism Executive of the Year by the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association. The event will be emceed by Assemblyman Marc Molinaro.  The Performing Arts Collective is a group of Chamber members that have come together as an association of both professional and community-based performing arts businesses that have come together to promote and nurture the performing arts as essential to a healthy economy and cultural life in Columbia County.   Please click here for more information.
Copake Country Club Business After Hours - May 14, 2008
Copake Country Club will host a Business After Hours on Wednesday, May 14 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Copake Country Club is located where Columbia County rolls into the Berkshire Mountains. A challenging 18 hole golf course, it sits beautifully alongside Copake Lake. They are convenient for golfers in New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut. 19th Annual Golf Tournament - May 19, 2008
Get your golf clubs ready for the 19th Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, May 19 at Columbia Golf and Country Club.  Registration and lunch will begin at noon and play begins at 1:00 pm with a shotgun start.  The early bird rate valid through May 9 is $140.  Reservations include golf, cart, lunch, open-bar cocktail hour, and dinner.  We will once again have fabulous hole-in-one prizes for this year's tournament and the $50,000 Combo Putt Off.  Twelve lucky golfers will be chosen by raffle for a chance to putt for the cash.  Reserve early as this is a sellout tournament.    Please click here for more information.

The Hudson Area Association Library in conjunction with the NY Council for the Humanities, Speakers in the Humanities Program will present a presentation on April 5 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.  Dr. Terry Hamblin, Associate Professor, SUNY Dehli will present "You Say You Want A Revolution: John Lennon, The Beatles and the Politics of the 1960's and 1970's".  This lecture and multimedia presentation highlights the Beatles impact on the political, cultural and social changes of the 1960's.  Through examining the music and lyrics of the Beatles, Dr. Hamblin will explore how they reflected and influenced the various social, political and cultural movements that emerged during this time.  For more information about the Hudson Area Association Library call (518) 828-1792 or visit their website at www.hudson.lib.ny.us.

Community Events

Visit the Hudson-Chatham Winery, which is reopening for the season on Saturday, April 5, and will be open every weekend in April from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays and noon to 5:00 pm on Sundays.  To kick off the season, the winery is hosting a Culinary Salute to Spring on Saturday, April 5.  In addition to a regular tasting, there will be a selection of complementary savory and sweet spring foods that pair beautifully with the wines.  For more information about Hudson-Chatham Winery call (518) 392-WINE or visit their website at www.hudson-chathamwinery.com.

Miracle Tomato & The Small Revolution Expo is the first event of its kind in the region.  It will bring together local farms, restaurants, green businesses and initiatives, climate change organizations, scholars, activists and artists - all those who are shaping our collective futures in the areas of food quality, safety and availability and sustainable solutions for home, school, work, agriculture and municipalities.  The Miracle Tomato play will be held on Friday, April 25 at and Saturday, April 26 at the Basilica in Hudson. The Small Revolution Expo will take place on Saturday, April 26 only from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm and will include a lecture by Craig Holdrege of the Nature Institute, followed by a round table discussion. The Upper Hudson River Alliance invites businesses to take part in a great opportunity to take on a challenging season.  The 2008 tourism season presents some great challenges to the businesses and sites in and around the Hudson Valley and the Upper Hudson River Alliance is excited about an opportunity to take on those challenges.  Through a partnership with the Alliance, Catskill Mountain Guide and NYS Division of Tourism, a unique opportunity has been created to reduce business expenses and increase the range of marketing.  Participants can get 50% of their marketing expenses in this program reimbursed by NYS Division of Tourism.  For more information about this opportunity call Peter Marotta, Executive Director of Upper Hudson River Alliance at (518) 695-3009.
