Columbia County Bounty Springs into the Spotlight
The Columbia County Bounty program is pleased to unveil its first guide to restaurants, retail farms and markets across the County.  Columbia County Bounty (CCB) was launched this past March at the Chamber's Agricultural Brunch.  The idea behind CCB is to promote and support networking connections between local agricultural producers and culinary businesses.  The program currently boasts over 90 Charter Members that support CCB.  You may become a Charter Member for a small fee of $25.  This includes a binder listing of all restaurants and farms and CCB decal to hang proudly in your place of business.  CCB Charter Members are also invited to special events throughout the year that may not be open to the public.  Contact the Chamber today to learn more about Columbia County Bounty.   Click here to read the full article and for a CCB membership application.

Chatham Village First Friday - August 3, 2007
August 3 is First Friday in historic Chatham Village.  First Friday is a celebration of the businesses in Chatham and is not to be missed.  Check out the exciting values and special events below from local Chatham businesses!  Welcome Home Antiques and More is celebrating the First Friday in August with a hot, hot sale on all jewelry. Matthew Burkholz's collection of fabulous Bakelite jewelry is included in this sale! Don't miss this opportunity to begin or add to your collection.  The Handcrafters will be open until 7 pm on August 3. The store is offering select leather handbags at a discount price. Stop by to see the new lines of jewelry and some new and exciting Italian Vietri dinnerware. There are still plenty of summer items and an expanded selection of Dover books for children.  Chatham Wine & Liquor located on Main Street will have some New York State wines open for tasting on Friday evening.  The Chatham House is offering free music every Friday night this summer in the fine dining room. No cover charge. Guests can enjoy dinner and listen to live music. They will also be conducting a wine tasting to coincide with Chatham's First Fridays The promenade shops are open late, so patrons can enjoy wine, listen to live music, shop a little and dine if they wish--all under one roof.

Paving the Way to Success Chatham Business Forums - August 9, 2007 - Part III
The Chamber along with the Chatham Business Alliance has hosted two business forums as part of the three part series to provide Chatham businesses with information about how they can keep business strong during the road construction early next spring.  The third forum will feature Communities Connecting who will do a presentation on how expanding broadband options can help impact Chatham businesses.  The forum will be held on Thursday, August 9 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the Tracy Memorial Village Hall in Chatham.  For more information or to reserve for the event contact Kathy Stumph at 392-5848 or kstumph@taconic.net

Fairview Plaza Business After Hours - August 15, 2007
The businesses of Fairview Plaza will host a Business After Hours on Wednesday, August 15.  Attendees can pick up a "business passport" at Fairview Wines and Spirits and are encouraged to visit other participating businesses.  Fairview Wines & Spirits will be conducting a wine tasting that evening as well.  Once the passport is complete attendees can bring it to the Bank of Greene County to be entered into a raffle drawing.  Join us for an evening of exciting business networking.   Please click here for more information.

Columbia-Greene Superintendents Breakfast - August 23, 2007
The Columbia and Greene County Chambers of Commerce will host the 3rd Annual Superintendents Breakfast on Thursday, August 23 from 7:30 to 9:00 am.  This special program will feature "Regionalism: The Spirit of Collaboration" and will discuss supporting and advancing the issues that impact community growth.  The keynote speaker will be Jonathan Drapkin, President & CEO of Pattern for Progress.  Other topics discussed will include: firsthand experiences schools that were involved with the B.E.S.T. County Supervisor's Reception - September 12, 2007
All public officials and Chamber members are invited to attend the annual County Supervisor's Reception on Wednesday, September 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  The Chamber will introduce the Gerald R. Simons Scholarship Fund for the Leadership Columbia County program in honor of the County leader.  The Chamber holds this annual event to express their gratitude to the Columbia County Board of Supervisors.  We encourage members to take this opportunity to network with your community leaders.  The event will be held at the Fireman's Home on Harry Howard Avenue in Hudson and is free of charge.  Please click here for more information.
Hawthorne Valley Business After Hours - September 27, 2007

Register for the Buy Local Business Expo - October 25, 2007
The Buy Local Business Expo will be held on Thursday, October 25 at Columbia-Greene Community College. Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP)
If your small business is faced with a technical challenge SATOP can provide up to 40 hours of FREE technical assistance for qualified requests, utilizing the vast engineering expertise of NASA and participating Alliance Partners (NASA contractors, sub-contractors or Universities).  SATOP is designed to speed the transfer of US Space Program knowledge and technology to small businesses, to provide economic benefits to the community, and to raise public awareness of the Space program.  Please click here for more information.
Chamber Stats

The Columbia-Greene Humane Society will hold its 4th annual Summer Paw Picnic on Saturday, August 4 from 12:00 to 5:00 pm at Old Chatham Shepherding Company.  This year's event will again include gourmet catered picnic fare from Good Food Catering .  There will be live music, children's activities, a silent art auction, and much more.  Advance reservations are $50 for adults and $10 for children under age 12.  For more information about the Columbia-Greene Humane Society call (518) 828-6044 or visit their website at www.cghs.org.

The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services designed to revitalize the role of literature in American Culture and bring the transformative power of literature into the lives of it's citizens.  The Big Read has selected the Hudson Area Association Library in partnership with Space 360/Hanover International to receive a $10,000 grant.  The grant monies will be used to develop a roster of events to encourage the community to read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.  The partnership is developing a program of activities in the City of Hudson, and the Town of Greenport and throughout Columbia and Greene counties to encourage a community-wide participation in October and November.  The book was a perfect choice based on having the Firemen's Association of New York's Firemen's Home and the Museum of Firefighting here in Hudson along with many historic firehouses.  The book can be enjoyed by readers at all levels and invites participation by high school and middle school students as well as their parents throughout all of Columbia County.   For more information on The Big Read contact the Hudson Area Association Library at (518) 828-1792 or website The Big Read website at www.neabigread.org.

Due to its generous support in the past, The American Red Cross has named the City of Hudson as one of its "Communities That Care".  On August 8th, The American Red Cross, in conjunction with the City of Hudson is asking for area residents to donate blood at a special "Communities That Care" Blood Drive at the American Legion Hall located at 7 Fairview Avenue in Hudson from noon to 7:00 pm.  They are asking for 130 people to make an appointment to donate blood during the blood drive.  Every donation can help as many as three different patients.  This is a great investment of an hour's time.  All donor's will receive a commemorative t-shirt and will be entered into a random drawing for a $1000 shopping extravaganza.  For more information or to make an appointment contact The American Red Cross at 1-800-givelife or visit their website to register at www.donatebloodnow.org.

Hands on! The Hudson Valley is seeking concerned Columbia County Citizens.  Volunteers are needed to be trained as advocates for residents living in local nursing homes and adult homes.  The Hudson Valley Ombudsman Program is seeking caring individuals who can contribute approximately 4 hours per week to help identify and resolve resident concerns.  Ombudsman Volunteers receive 36 hours of FREE advocacy training by Hands On! The Hudson Valley and are then certified by the New York State Office for the Aging.  The training sessions will be held at the Columbia County Human Services Building located at 325 Columbia Street in Hudson.  Training dates are September 4,7,14,20,27 and 28 and will be held from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  For more information about Hands On! Join the fight against cancer at the 2007 Columbia County Cancer Ride on Saturday, September 8.  Ride through historic and scenic farmland on rolling back roads.  They are offering a choice of three rides, 10, 25 or 50 miles, beginning and ending at Crellin Park in Chatham.  Ride begins at 8:00 am for the 50 mile loop, at 8:30 am for the 25 mile loop and 9:00 am for the 10 mile loop.  Entry for the ride is $25.  Proceeds from the ride will benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation and a local family from Chatham.  For more information about the Columbia County Cancer Ride contact Event Coordinators Chris Oathout at (518) 392-7098 or Ronnie Oathout at (518) 755-2433 or visit the website at www.columbiacountycancerride.com.

Clermont State Historic Site will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of the maiden voyage of Robert Fulton's North River Steamboat.  Clermont will celebrate this landing with a two-day steamboat extravaganza on Saturday, August 18 from 11 am to 10 pm and Sunday, August 19 from 11 am to 5 pm.  The public is invited to this celebratory event and will feature steamboat demonstrations, re-enactors, fireworks, fun for the kids, educational talks, vendors, traditional music and demonstrations of all kinds.  For more information about Clermont State Historic Site call (518) 537-4240 or visit their website at www.friendsofclermont.org.
