The Big Read, an initiative of the National
Endowment of the Arts (NEA) in partnership with the Institute
of Museum and Library Services designed to revitalize the
role of literature in American Culture and bring the transformative
power of literature into the lives of it's citizens.
The Big Read has selected the Hudson Area Association
Library in partnership with Space 360/Hanover International
to receive a $10,000 grant. The grant monies will be
used to develop a roster of events to encourage the community
to read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. The
partnership is developing a program of activities in the City
of Hudson, and the Town of Greenport and throughout Columbia
and Greene counties to encourage a community-wide participation
in October and November. The book was a perfect choice
based on having the Firemen's Association of New York's Firemen's
Home and the Museum of Firefighting here in Hudson along with
many historic firehouses. The book can be enjoyed by
readers at all levels and invites participation by high school
and middle school students as well as their parents throughout
all of Columbia County. For more information on
The Big Read contact the Hudson Area Association Library at
(518) 828-1792 or website The Big Read website at www.neabigread.org.

They are asking for 130 people to make an appointment to donate
blood during the blood drive. Every donation can help
as many as three different patients. This is a great
investment of an hour's time. All donor's will receive
a commemorative t-shirt and will be entered into a random

"The name Kinderhook Bank is extraordinarily simple and
it remains true to our roots," added Sherwood.
