Visit the Chamber Staff at Winter Walk - December 2, 2006
The Chamber staff will be distributing member information and collecting toys in front of the Chamber office at Winter Walk on December 2.  The toys will benefit the Salvation Army and COARC Children's Christmas Party.  Donations of new, non-gift wrapped toys for children aged 11 and younger will be collected during Winter Walk from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.  If you are unable to attend Winter Walk, the Chamber will also be collecting toys during regular business hours at the Chamber office located at 507 Warren Street in Hudson.  Please click here for more information.
Midhudsonmedia & Mid-Hudson Cable Holiday After Hours - December 7, 2006

Excel Physical Therapy After Hours -January 18, 2007

Columbia County Ski Challenge - January 25, 2007
Get your team ready for the 1st annual Columbia County Ski Challenge.  Businesses are invited to put together teams of two to four people to race against other teams.  Friendly competition between businesses is encouraged.  Sponsored by the Chamber and Catamount Ski Area this annual night of discounted skiing and snowboarding is open to Chamber members and the public.  It will be held on Thursday, January 25 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.  Lift tickets will be on sale at the Chamber office.  Prices are: lift tickets $14, rentals $14 and lessons $8.  Walk-ins will also be welcome the night of the event.  Please click here for more information.
Crystal Apple Award Nominations - February 16, 2007
The Chamber is seeking nominations for the 18th annual Crystal Apple Award Gala.  This prestigious award is presented to a Chamber member business to recognize an extraordinary contribution to economic progress, community improvement, and the quality of life in Columbia County during 2006.  All Chamber member businesses are eligible and candidate nominations will be accepted until January 5, 2007.  The Gala will be held on February 16 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Lippera's at the Chatham House.  Please click here for more information and a nomination form.
Chamber Stats

Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP)
If your small business is faced with a technical challenge SATOP can provide up to 40 hours of FREE technical assistance for qualified requests, utilizing the vast engineering expertise of NASA and participating Alliance Partners (NASA contractors, sub-contractors or Universities).  SATOP is designed to speed the transfer of US Space Program knowledge and technology to the private sector, to provide economic benefits to the community, and to raise public awareness of the Space program.  Please click here for more information.

Member News

The Doane Stuart School has announced that is has received over $4 million in gifts and pledges in just one month and anticipate closing in on its $5 million goal, the most ambitious in the School's 30-year history.  This is the first step in a campaign that will require raising a total of $10 to $15 million over the next few years to secure the School's campus home.  The Doane Stuart School is the Capital Region's only coeducational nursery through grade twelve school.  For more information about The Doane Stuart School call (518) 465-5222 or visit their website at www.doanestuart.org.

Space 360 featuring Chef Ralph Lupoli will host two cooking classes entitled "Making Cookies with the Kids" and "Christmas Baking" on Saturday, December 2.   "Making Cookies with the Kids" will be held from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.  This special afternoon class will begin teaching children the joys of sharing the holidays.  The "Christmas Baking" class will be held at 6:30 pm.  It's the extras that make a Holiday special.  For more information about Space 360 call (518) 697-3360 or visit their website at www.360warren.com.

The Taconic Hills Elementary School students will perform "101 Dalmatians" on Saturday, December 16 at 7:00 pm.  The play is directed by Christine Patton and Colleen Miller.  The performance will held at the Taconic Hills Performing Arts Center.  For more information about Taconic Hills Central School call (518) 325-0310 or visit their website at www.taconichills.k12.ny.us.


In partnership with the American Cancer Society, Bellevue Woman's Hospital and the Healthy Women Partnership programs, Capital District Physicians' Health Plan (CDPHP) announced that they successfully screened nearly 125 women during a nine-month breast health awareness program.  Utilizing a three-pronged educational campaign, including mobile mammographies, communication outreach to members and physicians, and an enhanced online directory to assist members with locating facilities that offer mammography services, CDPHP aimed the message of early detection to woman in both urban and rural settings.  The CDPHP breast health awareness campaign culminated during national breast cancer awareness month in October.  For more information about CDPHP visit their website site at www.cdphp.com.

Stageworks/Hudson presents Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol".  The play featuring Greg Oliver Bodine is a solo adaptation of Dicken's classic tale.  It's a sincere, moving performance that sets the mood for the coming holidays.  The show will be held for two days only on Friday, December 15 at 8:00 pm and Saturday, December 16 at 2:00 pm.    For more information about Stageworks/Hudson call (518) 822-9667 or visit their website at www.stageworkshudson.org.

Community Events


Get ready for a Winter Walk on Warren Street on Saturday, December 2 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.  Hudson's main street will be transformed into a winter wonderland, as the Hudson Opera House "A Winter Walk on Warren Street", the eagerly-awaited kick-off to the holiday season in historic Hudson.  Always held on the first Saturday in December, this festive holiday celebration is now in its tenth year and become a premier event in the Hudson Valley.  Winter Walk features dancers, storytellers, and musicians performing in shop windows, horse-drawn carriage rides, live reindeer and a Santa Parade.  Groups of carolers stroll the streets, along with the walking Grandfather Clock, the Gingerbread Boy and other characters. Candlelight Night is an annual event sponsored by the Kinderhook Business and Professional Association to showcase the quaint shops and unique businesses in Kinderhook.  Candlelight Night will be held on Friday, December 8 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm rain, snow or shine.  All evening shops and offices in the Village will be open for visitors to browse and enjoy refreshments.  Luminaries will light your way from door to door to meet your local business people.  Bring your family and friends and celebrate the holiday season.  Visit Santa Claus at National Union Bank of Kinderhook, ride the horse-drawn wagon at Berkshire Telephone, visit Rebekah's Salon for their 2nd annual open house for mini facials and hand massages, greet real live reindeer in the village square and listen to strolling carolers.  For more information about the Village of Kinderhook call (518) 758-9882 or visit their website at http://village.kinderhookny.us/index.htm.

On Friday, December 15 the Village of Valatie will hold its annual Winter Walk in Valatie from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.  Enjoy storytelling, musicians, a performance by the Ghent Band starting at 6:15 pm, face painters, carolers, refreshments and a silent auction, hayrides down Main Street and Santa Claus arrives at 6:30 pm.  The event is sponsored by the Valatie Economic Redevelopment Association.  For more information about the Village of Valatie call (518) 758-9806 or visit their website at www.valatievillage.com.
