A Look Ahead at the Hudson Waterfront
The Chamber will release an article supporting development of the Hudson Waterfront that encourages business on Thursday, July 6 in the business section of the Register Star.  The article will also be available on the Chamber website on Thursday.  The Chamber encourages involvement from all county businesses to help shape the project.  This is a significant development opportunity for everyone and while the Chamber doesn't back any particular plan, they want the plan to draw ideas, resources, etc. from the entire county.  For more information about this project contact David Colby at dcolby@columbiachamber-ny.com
Chamber Stats
During the month of June the Chamber answered 385 phone calls, sent out 5 relocation guides and welcomed over 200 members to events.  The Chamber website was visited over 11,000 times or more than 400 times daily. For more information about your Chamber of Commerce contact the staff at mail@columbiachamber-ny.com.
Chamber Announces Excellence in Business Awards Recipients on June 15
The Chamber was pleased to announce the 2006 Excellence in Business Awards recipients on June 15 at Stageworks/Hudson.  The Business Showcase featured a wine tasting by Hudson Wine Merchants, a beer tasting by C.H. Evans Brewing Company and hors d'oeuvres by Maxie's Bistro.  Awards were presented in five categories.  This event was sponsored by National Union Bank of Kinderhook, First Niagara Bank, Midhudsonmedia, The Register Star/Chatham Courier, Blass Communications, LLC, Columbia Hudson Partnership, Taconic Farms, Inc., Bank of Greene County, Dunn Builders Supply and Shallo, Galluscio, Bianchi & Fucito, CPAs, PC.  Please click here to view the award recipients.
Agricultural Awareness Tour Recap
The 7th Annual Agricultural Awareness Tour was held on Saturday, June 24. Over 30 people attended this year's tour.   Attendees had a wonderful experience visiting the farms.  Along with a back roads tour of the County participants received an in-depth look into Harrier Fields Farm, Full Belly Farm and Spruce Ridge Farm.  The tour was created to increase the awareness and understanding of the socioeconomic impact of agriculture in Columbia County.  This event was sponsored by National Union Bank of Kinderhook, First Niagara Bank, Midhudsonmedia, The Register Star/Chatham Courier, Columbia Land Conservancy, First Pioneer Farm Credit and Hawthorne Valley Association.  Please click here to read the recap and to view the photo gallery.
Columbia County Fairgrounds Business After Hours - July 12, 2006
The Columbia County Fairgrounds will host a Business After Hours on Wednesday, July 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Come see the recent renovations to the Fairhouse building, which dates back to 1884.  The fairgrounds is the home of the annual Columbia County Fair held six days through Labor Day weekend.  The new Fairhouse building and the grounds can be used for corporate events, weddings, banquets, and much more.    Please click here for more information.
Hudson River Boat Cruise - July 20, 2006
The annual Hudson River Boat Cruise will set sail on the Spirit of the Hudson on Thursday, July 20.  Come and enjoy food, drinks and music while cruising down the Hudson River.  A pre-boarding reception will take place at the Hudson Waterfront Park beginning at 5:00 pm and we will set sail at 6:00 pm.  Reserve by July 14 to take advantage of the discounted rate of $45.  This event is sponsored by National Union Bank of Kinderhook, First Niagara Bank, Midhudsonmedia, The Register Star/Chatham Courier and Mid-Hudson VIP.  Please click here for more information.

Columbia-Greene Superintendents Breakfast - August 22, 2006
The Columbia and Greene County Chambers of Commerce will host the 2nd Annual Superintendents Breakfast on Tuesday, August 22 from 7:30 to 9:00 am.  The event is being held to help the business community to connect with local school superintendents.  This event is sponsored by National Union Bank of Kinderhook, First Niagara Bank, Midhudsonmedia, The Register Star/Chatham Courier, Fingar Insurance, The Bank of Greene County and Columbia-Greene Community College.    Please click here for more information.

Networking Luncheon - August 23, 2006

Save the Date for the Fall Business Expo - October 26, 2006
This Buy Local Expo will be held on Thursday, October 26 at Columbia-Greene Community College. The Expo will run from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.  The event will feature 60 to 70 booths available to showcase your products and services to Columbia County businesses and residents.  As part of the Expo we will be featuring demonstrations, food tasting's, entertainment and much more.  Reserve early as there is only a limited number of booths available.  A complimentary booth will be provided to businesses that serve food at the event.   Booth prices start at $100 for members.  Sponsorship of the event starts at $250.  Save the date and look for more detailed information in the coming months.  Don't miss this opportunity to promote your business to hundreds of local residents.  If you would like to reserve your booth or sponsorship early, contact the Chamber at 828-4417 or mail@columbiachamber-ny.com.
Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP)
If your small business is faced with a technical challenge SATOP can provide up to 40 hours of FREE technical assistance for qualified requests, utilizing the vast engineering expertise of NASA and participating Alliance Partners (NASA contractors, sub-contractors or Universities).  SATOP is designed to speed the transfer of US Space Program knowledge and technology to the private sector, to provide economic benefits to the community, and to raise public awareness of the Space program.  Please click here for more information.

The Landmarks Visitor Center officially opened on Memorial Day weekend at 547 Warren Street in Hudson.  Seven Columbia and Greene County organizations have joined forces to create the Center and is the result of an innovative partnership between The Olana Partnership, Columbia County Department of Tourism, Friends of Clermont, Martin Van Buren National Historic Site, Columbia County Historical Society, Shaker Museum and Library and Cedar Grove.  The organizations hope to publicize their sites to both tourists and the local community.   Along with educational programs and events, the Center includes a retail shop featuring merchandise from member organizations, a wide selection of local history books, and much more.  The Center is open seven days a week from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm throughout the summer.  For more information about the Landmarks Visitor Center contact the Tourism Department at (518) 828-3375 or visit their website at www.columbiacountyny.org.

Community Events

On Sunday, July 2 the Columbia County Fairgrounds will open for Family Fest in celebration of Independence Day.  Enjoy free children's rides, climbing wall, arts and crafts, pony rides, hay maze, live music and fireworks.  The gates open at 3:00 pm and fireworks are at 9:30 pm.  For more information about the Columbia County Fairgrounds call (518) 392-2121 or visit their website at www.columbiafair.com. 

The Kinderhook Business and Professional Association will host the annual People's Parade on Tuesday, July 4.  The parade kicks off at 11:00 am from Rothermel Park in Kinderhook and will be held rain or shine.  Make your own float.  Decorate your car, stroller, wagon, garden tractor, lawn mower or bike.  Anything you can push or ride, and decorate with good old American Pride!  Everyone is invited to participate or bring a chair to relax and watch the parade from the sidelines.  For more information about the Village of Kinderhook (518) 758-9882 or visit their website at http://village.kinderhookny.us/index.htm.

School Information
Hawthorne Valley School will be running a July Kinder Camp for children ages 4-7.  Let your child experience the riches of Hawthorne Valley in the summertime!  Activities will include nature crafts, songs, and stories; sand and water play; and hikes and adventures in the fields, forests, streams and farm of our beautiful 400-acre campus.  The camp will be offered in 1-week sessions from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, Monday through Friday.  The fee for each week is $120.  For more information about Hawthorne Valley Association call (518) 672-7092 or visit their website site at www.hawthornevalleyschool.org.
