Chamber Recognizes Excellence in Business
Join us to celebrate business excellence in Columbia County at the Excellence in Business Awards and Showcase on Thursday, June 14 at Stageworks/Hudson.  The event will feature awards given to local businesses in five different areas of achievement including: Community Service, Most Promising New Business, Business Person of the Year, Small Company of the Year and Large Company of the Year.   The Business Showcase will be held from 5:00 to 6:30 pm and the awards ceremony from 6:30 to 7:00 pm.  Event sponsors will be able to showcase their business with a table top exhibit in "The Gallery at Stageworks" from 5:00 to 6:30 pm.  Attendees will also enjoy a wine tasting by Hudson-Chatham Winery, a beer tasting by Chatham Brewing, a juice tasting by Micosta Enterprises and hors d'oeuvres by Georgia Ray's.  The cost is $10 in advance or $15 at the door.  Please click here for more information.

Leadership Columbia County - Last Chance to Submit an Application
This is your last chance to submit an application for the Leadership Columbia County Class of 2007-08.   This newly enhanced program now under the administration of the Chamber will include some of the most popular historical components, but will also feature new speakers, topics and host locations. The program brings together a diverse group of professionals from financial services, education, healthcare, the arts, community organizations, government and other sectors.  We encourage all Columbia County businesses to consider sending an applicant to the program for the 2007-08 class.  Applications are due by June 4.    Please click here for an application.

Chatham Summer Business Forums
With major road construction on the horizon, the Chamber is hosting a series of seminars with the Chatham Business Alliance.  The seminars will provide Chatham businesses with information about how they can keep business strong during the road construction early next spring.  The first seminar will explore lessons that can be learned from another community that experienced a similar project.  Todd Shimkas, President & CEO of the Adirondack Chamber of Commerce will be among the speakers who will talk about best practices and lessons learned from downtown road construction projects.  The first seminar will be held on June 28 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at Lippera's at the Chatham House.  For more information contact David Colby at dcolby@columbiachamber-ny.com.

Annual Agricultural Tour - June 30, 2007
We invite you to join us to explore agriculture in Columbia County on the 8th annual Agricultural Awareness Tour on Saturday, June 30.  The tour will depart at 10:00 am from Hawthorne Valley Farm and return at 1:00 pm for lunch.  The tour is open to Chamber members and the public.  In addition to a back roads tour of the county, participants will get an in-depth look into Markristo Farm, Holmquest Farms and Hawthorne Valley Farm.  The cost is $15 and includes coach bus tour transportation and a "box lunch" of local products.  Please click here for more information.

Columbia-Greene Boat Cruise - July 18, 2007 - SPECIAL SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP)
If your small business is faced with a technical challenge SATOP can provide up to 40 hours of FREE technical assistance for qualified requests, utilizing the vast engineering expertise of NASA and participating Alliance Partners (NASA contractors, sub-contractors or Universities).  SATOP is designed to speed the transfer of US Space Program knowledge and technology to small businesses, to provide economic benefits to the community, and to raise public awareness of the Space program.  Please click here for more information.
Chamber Stats

National Union Bank of Kinderhook has made a one thousand dollar contribution to the Friends of Lindenwald as part of the volunteer organization's drive to purchase and install a statue of the nation's 8th president on the village green in Kinderhook.  Robert A. The New York State Partnership for Employment will present a one-day seminar entitled "The Competitive Edge of Recruiting Job-Seekers with Psychiatric Disabilities" on Tuesday, June 19.  The seminar is sponsored by the Mental Health Association of New York and will feature a keynote by Denise Bissonnette.  Ms. Bissonnette is a nationally renowned speaker and advocate for workforce inclusion of individuals with varying abilities.  The seminar will be held at Columbia-Greene Community College from 8:00 am to 4:45 pm.  The cost is $20.  To register or for more information about the Mental Health Association in New York State call (518) 434-0439 or visit their website at www.mhanys.org.

Walking the Dog Theater is pleased to announce its summer workshops for children and youth in the County.  The theater offers programs for children ages 10 to 14 and 14 to 18.  The ages 10 to 14 workshop will involve theater games, character development, ensemble-building, and speech.  This is an intense and fun-filled experience for young actors who want to develop their acting skills.  Auditions are June 10th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.  The ages 14 to 18 workshop will involve acting exercises, improvisation, character development,  ensemble-building, and speech.  Auditions for this group are June 10th from 3:00 to 6:00 pm.  For more information about these programs contact Walking the Dog Theater at (518) 392-0131 or visit their website at www.wtdtheater.org.

Community Events

On every Friday in June, the Wine Cellar at the Chatham House will feature a festival month of live entertainment.  Each Friday will feature a variety of musical performances to please any audience.  All shows begin at 9:00 pm.  Tickets, in the form of a cover charge will be available at the entrances to the Wine Cellar for $10.  Those who eat in the dining room upstairs that evening will be admitted free to the show and those who eat in the Tavern will receive a $5 deduction.  For more information about Lippera's at the Chatham House call (518) 392-6600 or visit their website at www.thechathamhouse.com.

The KinderCrafter Fair, sponsored by the Kinderhook Business and Professional Association will be held on Saturday, June 2 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  The KinderCrafter Fair is designed to raise funds for community charities and to kickoff the summer festivities in the historic Village of Kinderhook.  The day includes many events including a 5K Road Race, Farmers Market, Ichabod Crane Art Department exhibit, and much more.  Vendors offer a wide variety of handcrafted home decor products, jewelry, candles, clothing, food items, gardening items and more.  For more information about the Kinderhook Business and Professional Association visit their website at www.kbpa.org.

Enjoy the Hudson-Athens Flag Day celebration on June 8-10.  On June 8 from 5:00 to 10:00 pm enjoy a riverfront midway, youth music and art, and a sunset fire on the river.  On June 9 from 12:00 to 10:00 pm enjoy the Flag Day Parade, youth programs, midway, car show, music, air show and riverfront fireworks.  The parade steps off at 4:00 pm.  Finally on June 10 from 10:00 to 5:00 pm come and watch the GO-Zero Grand Prix Kayak Race Series for the Flag Day Cup and much more!  For more information about Flag Day Weekend call (518) 965-3009.
