Best in Show 2008 Public Art Project - Sponsorship Deadline Nearing
The Chamber and Columbia County Council on the Arts are pleased to announce the collaboration to bring "Best in Show" 2008 to Columbia County.  The Public Art Display will feature 60 dogs painted by local artists up and down Warren Street.  If you've seen the Cats in Catskill, the Horses in Saratoga or the Sheep in Pittsfield you know how exciting this is for Columbia County.  The display will begin in July and conclude with an Auction and Gala in October.  These dogs need your help!  Please click on the following link to learn more about sponsoring a dog for your business.  All Columbia County businesses are encouraged to participate in this wonderful community project.    Please click here for a sponsorship packet.
Hudson Correctional Facility - Business Response Survey
The City of Hudson and County administrators are putting together a survey on the economic impact of the closure of the Hudson Correctional Facility.  We are asking Chamber member businesses to click on this link to complete the survey for this very important issue.  This study will be complete in March, so that it can reach state legislators before a final budget is passed in April.  Research results and stories gathered during this study may also be published in area newspapers in order to arm HCF employees and the general public with as much information as possible during this uncertain time.  Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey.
Chamber Announces Crystal Apple Award Recipient

Agricultural Business Brunch - March 12, 2008

Columbia Memorial Hospital Business After Hours - April 24, 2008
Join us as Columbia Memorial Hospital hosts a Business After Hours on Thursday, April 24 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Columbia Memorial serves more than 100,000 residents in Columbia, Greene and Northern Dutchess counties. The hospital focuses on advanced surgery, primary care and health-based education. It is a 192-bed acute care facility. Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP)
If your small business is faced with a technical challenge SATOP can provide up to 40 hours of FREE technical assistance for qualified requests, utilizing the vast engineering expertise of NASA and participating Alliance Partners (NASA contractors, sub-contractors or Universities).  SATOP is designed to speed the transfer of US Space Program knowledge and technology to small businesses, to provide economic benefits to the community, and to raise public awareness of the Space program.  Please click here for more information.
Chamber Stats

Hudson Chiropractic will be hosting a mini seminar entitled "Pilates for Your Spine" on Wednesday, March 11 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Pilates Hudson located at 403 Warren Street, Hudson on the 3rd floor. The Hudson Area Association Library is offering a four week Art Class starting March 8.  An "introduction to Drawing and Painting the Natural World" is a course in how to draw and paint plants, animals, and landscapes will be offered each Saturday for four weeks beginning March 8 from 10:30 to 12:30 pm.  The course is limited to 15 participants, ages 14 through adult.  For more information about the Hudson Area Association Library call (518) 828-1792 or visit their website at www.hudson.lib.ny.us.

The Columbia-Greene Diabetes Coalition a program of the Healthcare Consortium will hold a foot care presentation with free foot screenings at the March 7 Diabetes Education and Support meeting. The session will run an hour earlier from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. to ensure individuals with diabetes can be screened.  The meeting will be held at 325 Columbia Street, Hudson in the second floor conference room.  Dr. David Nussbaum will begin with a presentation on foot care at 2:00 pm.  Following the presentation Dr. Nussbaum and Dr. Picchione will conduct the complimentary foot screenings.  Registration is not necessary and all are welcome.  For more information about the Healthcare Consortium. call (518) 822-9600 or visit their website at www.columbiahealthnet.org.

The admissions office at Columbia-Greene Community College will hold its annual Open House for prospective students, parents and the community on Saturday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Greenport campus.  Activities include iPod giveaways and door prizes. Presentations will be given on most of the 47 degree and certificate program opportunities available at C-GCC. Community Events

The Taconic Hills Performing Arts Center will feature the Jazz Knights - United States Military Band for an encore performance on Saturday, March 15.  Over the years, Jazz Knights' members have played with such legendary jazz artists as Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, Ahmad Jamal and the Glenn Miller Band.  As a group, their extensive career includes performances with Benny Goodman at Lincoln Center in 1982, the Duke Ellington Orchestra for the 200th Anniversary of the New York State Legislature and twice at the Hatch Shell for Boston's Independence Day Celebration.  For tickets or more information about the Taconic Hills Performing Arts Center call (518) 325-0447 or visit their website at www.taconichills.k12.ny.us/community/pac.

Save the Date for the upcoming 88 Keys Concert Series at Hawthorne Valley's Equinox Concert on Sunday, March 16, at 3:00. This will be a very special event with Jonah Thomas HVS '04 and Julian Muller HVS '11 playing with Gili Melamed-Lev and Jonathan Talbott. The group will play pieces by Haydn, Beethoven, Bach, and Thomas (a piece that Jonah has composed specifically for this group of musicians).
