has worked along with the Columbia County Chamber to offer
a limited opportunity, member discount to
you. It will provide a marketing program designed to
help both members and the Chamber, market effectively and
affordably, during these challenging economic times.
Essentially, the radio station has set aside inventory that
they will sell to a limited amount of members, at greatly
reduced (less than 50%) rates. Each commercial you purchase
will include 48-50 seconds for your message and a 10-12 second

The American Joint
Care Foundation (AJCF) in conjunction with Whittier
Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center ("Whittier")
have recently joined the Chamber. AJCF and Whittier
operate the nursing and rehabilitation center in Ghent.
American Joint Care Foundation is a not-for-profit dedicated
to serving the community by providing comprehensive residential
health care facilities and services. AJCF participates
with other not-for-profits to enhance the health of our community.
They are a welcome addition to our Chamber. On September
22, American Joint Care Foundation will join hands with the
Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York to host the
"First Annual Golf Classic" at Columbia Golf &
Country Club. Should anyone like to participate or donate

available and it promises to be a fun day for a very worthy
cause.
The Columbia County Healthcare Consortium will
hold its 5th annual Cancer Walk in collaboration with the
2nd annual Cancer Ride on Saturday, September 13. Proceeds
from the Walk will benefit the Cancer Support Program, a program
of the Healthcare Consortium. Proceeds from the Ride
will benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the American
Cancer Society. These funds will help with things such
as medical tests not covered by insurance, living expenses,
travel expenses related to medical care, nutrition counseling
and much more. The entry fee for walkers and bikers
is $25. The Walk and Ride will begin at the Chatham
Middle School. Registration starts at 7:00 am. For more

Walking the Dog Theater and the Hudson Area Association
Library are collaborating on a free theater workshop
for children ages 10-13 starting September 16 and meeting
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 to 4:30 pm at the Library
for three weeks and then meeting Tuesday through Friday from
3:00 to 4:30 pm in the 4th week wit a performance on Friday,
October 10. This workshop consists of two components:
theater games that explore ensemble building and improvisation,
movement and voice will form the first part of the session.
The other component is the work on a simple performance project,
a dramatized story that will draw on the newly formed skills
of storytelling and ensemble acting. The project will
culminate in the performance of the piece at the end of the

The first Columbia Greene
JSEC (Job Service Employer Committee) meeting of
the new program year will be held on September 25 at 8:00
am in the Professional Academic Building at Columbia Greene
Community College. The topic will be "Unemployment
Insurance in NYS - What Employers Need to Know".
The guest speaker is Michael J. Murphy of Carter, Conboy,
Blackmore, Maloney & Laird, PC who has an active trial
practice in the areas of civil rights, product liability,
employment practices, commercial law and toxic torts.

The Mac-Haydn
Theatre will feature "High School Musical" from September
4-14 to cap off their wonderful Ruby Jubilee 40th Anniversary
season. Popular with all ages, the show is a favorite
of teenagers, with music and dancing that they can especially
enjoy. High School Musical features Troy and Gabrielle,
who meet on a New Year's trip, and are surprised to see each
other again at Troy's high school, where Gabrielle just enrolled.
The plot touches on many high school situations, including
having to make choices in what teens really want most to do:
play basketball or be in the school musical, go with the "in"

The Spencertown Academy Arts Center
will host the annual Festival of Books from September 5-7
and September 12-14. This year's festival promises plenty
of interest bibliophiles, with more than 10,000 books for
purchase and appearances by more than a dozen acclaimed authors
including Russell Banks and Mary Gordon. Admission to
the Festival of Books, including all author readings, panel
discussions and children's events are free. The opening
night preview on Friday, September 5 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm
featuring wine and hors d'oeuvres is $25. Tickets for
the Harvest Dinner on Saturday, September 13 at 6:00 pm, which
honors the distinguished authors participating in the festival
